As you are going to Walter F. George, here is a route I often take to Birmingham. I take I10 to US 19 on to Camilla Georgia. Turn right at Camilla on Georgia 37 and follow to fort Gaines. At Fort Gaines, north on 39. Leaving Lake George, north on 39, then US 82 on through to Montgomery. There is a 90 degree turn in Eufaula but it is wide.

From Montgomery, I go on to I65. If you want to stay off interstate you could stay on 82 on into Mississippi. I think I would take Alternate 45 north when you get into Ms.

I have never driven that way from Montgomery but it looks good to me. I cannot tell you about any fuel stops along the way.

If you want to go through Birmingham, I can make suggestions on how to best maneuver around Montgomery. I will check back to see what you may want to do. Have a nice trip.
