June Indiana to New York

We will be making a trip to Danbury, Connecticut in June, 2-4 weeks on the road. We will be stopping at Carlisle, PA for the swap meet. Then off to Danbury and north, maybe to Woodstock area. Would prefer avoiding the New York City area the best we can. I hate traffic. Where is good and reasonable priced camping along the way? Might even want to take in a little fishing.

What road conditions might we find this time? New York has some of the worst roads we have been on, right behind current southern Indiana roads.

We were up that way several years ago and campgrounds were few and far between. One evening, we even had to stay in a WalMart lot and got to ride out a tornado. We were in Connecticut that trip and saw many people fly fishing in a stream along the highway we were on.

We did a similar trip last year from west central part of Michigan to Sandusky, Niagra Falls, Watkins Glen in Finger Lakes, Vermont, Maine, and back via Boston.
You can take I-80, nice drive, then I-84 to Danbury, CT. Up state NY is really beautiful, probably good fishing in Finger Lakes, but it will be a little out your way.

Have a safe trip!

It will be a little bit longer but take I-287 and cross the Hudson at the Tappan Zee bridge. Don't go the George Washington bridge, as the Cross Bronx expressway will really test your suspension.

If your going to Danbury CT., take I 87 north from I 80 or I 287, to I 84, Beacon Newburgh bridge. That gets you over the Hudson, miles north of NYC.

Cheap toll, less traffic, good roads, for NY.
