June Ontario to Alberta thru South Dakota.

Going to Alberta in June this year. Since gas is cheaper we may as well go through the US and try to see some sites in the US. Thought we might see the Mount Rushmore and Badlands area. Then head North west up into Canada staying east of Calgary and up to Drumheller and then Edmonton. Leaving Ontario we will head across MI. to Chicago and up to I90. Not sure where we will stay but have done the route Through MI and Illinois a number of times. Thought of staying at the Badlands White River KOA for a few days. Have not thought much beyond that. Will likely take an alternate route home and go across the top of Superior and down through Sault St Marie into MI and back home. Any must sees or CG recommendation getting there would be welcome. Have down the Canadian route home a number of times. Even though the Canadian side of Superior is not a joy with the trailer.

Well, MT Rushmore, the Badlands and Crazy Horse are good choices, and so is Yellowstone, you will pass right by it on I90 before you take I15 N if you are going by the Interstate system.

Suggest you get RV Parky or Allstays and IExit apps for you phone/tablet. I don't normally make any reservation until a few hours out because I like to maintain maximum flexibility but June is likely a busy time in those places.

Good luck and have a wonderful trip, Have been along that route several times, It does get a bit busy around by Gary IN and south of Chicago as you likely exoerienced so I recommend not going through during rush hours. The other option is to go over the top of L Michigan. Been that way also but there are some 2 lane roads that way, but a nice drive and nice country.

Thanks for the input. Got the Allstays app. Just picked up the RV parrky app upon your recommendation.

We are going to look at the over the top of Lake Mchigan for our return trip. We plotted it on the map and its 60 miles shorter than through Chicago but takes longer due to the smaller roads. But that might be awash as we try to keep the speed down anyway on the I series when the trailer is behind us. And yea I know what you mean with the Gary Chicago stretch. We did it a number of years ago with a 31 foot trailer at rush hour. Its actually better than the 401 through Toronto at rush hour though.

I often select 2 lane roads over the Interstates, but I seldom worry about time anymore. Good luck and have a great trip.
