KY is a really awesome state....lots to do and a wonderful history. I live in the Louisville area....and around me is a lush growing wine industry. there are some awesome parks and trails for the avid cycling or hiking person and many things to see in my area. If you come to Louisville area and stay at Grandma's RV park ...you are in the cusp of the excitement. I might include the "Dinner Train" in Bardstown and the Train museum just south of Bardstown KY. Include the bourbon trail tour.... and perhaps if you are a sipper...hit the 4TH St Live Louisville bourbons places.
I love to pedal in my town...get on my cycle and ride on the river trails (50 miles of riding). I also love the Frasier War Museum....Louisville Slugger museum and the local music scene. Some of the worlds best bluegrass music is right in my town and surrounding area.

I agree lots to see in KY. I'm originally from KY and go back a couple times per year. Live in NJ now.

I stayed at Grandma's RV last year, and while it is in a good location for sight-seeing, I cannot recommend that park. The accommodations are VERY tight. No room to sit outside plus no/limited shade. The bigger issue is the attitude of the elderly owner (Grandpa?). He is very rude! His son was more accommodating and a little more friendly.

This year we will be trying the KOA that is a couple miles away from Grandma's. We drove through it last year. Seems nicer but is a little more expensive.

I grew up in Louisville, KY, live in WI now... LOVE going back... it truly is a beautiful state..

We are planning a trip to KY with a few other couples next week (4 RV's and 5 couples).. We are staying at the KY Horse Park Campground... We are doing the Bourbon Trail on our motorcycles.. A friend of mine has connections and he is getting a private tour of Jim Beam and Maker's Mark... Can't wait !!

You have been given many wonderful suggestions.. Churchill Downs has already been mentioned.. but I would also include Keeneland... I don't think you can go wrong with any of the suggestions given.. it really is dependent on what "floats your boat".. Speaking of which... if you end up in Louisville... don't forget to take a trip on the Belle of Louisville...

Have fun and report back and let us know what you discovered and what your favorites were (we LOVE follow-up posts) !!!
