Key West Camping 1st Half of November '15

If good luck be with us, we'll be doing our 1st time ever camp-out in Key West with our new-to-us MH.

We've read several threads about this area and have several questions - our visit is on or about 11/6/15 for maybe a week:
1. Any boondocking in the area - maybe on the beach????
2. Traditional and non-traditional camp grounds - suggestions??
3. Should we expect anything different - maybe carnival like - this time of year???
4. What should we plan for or... Not plan for???

1. No boondocking anywhere in the Keys.
2. There are a couple of Encore parks and a few state parks with campgrounds. One KOA. The rest are one of a kind.
3. You just missed Fantasy Fest.
4. Just enjoy the experience.

What he said -- plus you will need reservations, if you don't have them now, good luck

Camping at Key West is an issue but shouldn't be to hard to find a spot a ways out as the big crowd doesn't arrive until later in the year. FYI, Fantasy Fest in Oct 23 - Nov 1 this year.

We stayed at the KOA on Sugarloaf for many years and always loved it. Site 151 or so gives you a view of the water and across from the Pub.

In fact, we loved it so much that we bought our own place on Big Pine Key and now live here!

Send me a PM and my wife and I will be happy to meet up.

I second the KOA on Sugarloaf. Nice park and I believe the rates there are much better than when we are there in February. Lots of things to do and try to see Howard Livingston play with or without the band while you are there.

We are at Sunshine Key for two weeks. They are prepping for snowbird arrival and the place is nearly empty..so plenty of room here now. There are a couple of small beach areas here plus you are next door to Bahia Honda, Veterans Park, and 20 minutes from Sombrero Beach.

Miccosukee Casino....

The drive down US1 from just south of Flordia City to Key West is beautiful but very slow.... We always plan a day just for that drive and never on a weekend. We plan on overnighting at the Miccosukee Casino at the intersection of Hwy 41 and 997. No charge to stay there as many days as you want just register at the security desk. A great place to stay and explore the Everglades. As others have already said reservations are absolutely necessary in the Keys.

X 2 on Miccosukee. It's at the junction of US41 & FL997. They have a $9.99 surf & turf special that's pretty good at one of the non buffet restaurants. If you go to the Everglades, stop at "Robert is here" fruit/vegetable stand. In the winter they have an incredible selection of mangos.

I stayed at Boyd's in April. Found it to be a nice place with a friendly staff. It was just a few minutes away over the bridge to Key West. Don't be put off by the price it is worth it. Also the Hogfish Bar & Grill is just down the road on Stock Island. Definitely need reservations. Checking the calendar of events there is a Parrot Head get together and other events up and down the Keys - visit Florida Keys & Key West events from the Official Florida Keys Tourism Council. Key West is one of those places either you like it or not. Boyd's is nice and when we return we'll stay there again.
