Im not sure where Lake City is but our last trip to Silverton was by toad We stayed several days in Alpin Rose RV park north of Durango. Watched the train for Silverton pass the CG each morning.
Have fun.

We have stayed here a number of times and it is a nice friendly place. The sites are close together, but you spend your days out in the mountains. You are walking distance to town and that is nice. I really have nothing bad to say about the place. I love Silverton and the trails all over the mountains.

Silver Summit RV Park and Jeep Rentals, Silverton Colorado

I cannot make any comments about camping in Lake City. We have stopped there for lunch while doing some of the trails in the area.

We've stayed at United Campgrounds in Durango Colorado several times and enjoyed each stay, although we haven't been there in the past few years.

It's close enough to town that it makes a nice bike ride. Also, the Durango Trolley has a stop just outside the campground that takes you into town. Very convenient if you want to have cocktail hour in town and not drive ...

The Duranto-Silverton train goes right through the campground, once in the morning and again in the afternoon, which is a daily event, kinda like watching the sunset in the Florida Keys ...

We were at United last fall and it was great, nicely run, clean and close to all but in the woods with the Silverton train going through.
