Lake Front RV Campgrounds

We are looking for suggestions/recommendations on lake front RV campgrounds. We have a 45 foot MC and would like to spend 5-6 months in a lake front campground in locations where it tends to be cooler during the summer months. Obvious locations that come to mind are the north central (MI, MN or WI) or north east (upstate NY or New England) regions. A campground in southern Ontario would work as would the mountains of TN, NC, WV, Western MD and PA. The campground doesn't need to be fancy as long as we have full hook-ups and there is comfortable spacing between units. It would be nice to have water front or water view, if those type of sites have full hook-ups, but full hook-ups trump view. The lake doesn't have to be large (a nice size pond would work) since our interest is kayaking, fishing, swimming and just hanging out along the water's edge. Also, since we are planning to spend an extended period, we would like to be reasonably close to good shopping and nice places to eat. Oh, and it would be nice if the campground has a good Wi-Fi signal and/or there is strong cell phone connection in the area.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Regards,

Keep in mind that on some lakes there is a geese problem and if you have one of the front sites you'll be walking through poop all the time. Been there.

Grand Marais, MN, municipal campground. On a small harbor of Lake Superior with views of the big lake itself.

There is a nice condo/rental RV Park in South Haven MI with a small lake. Good spacing and FHU.

Many thanks to all who responded. The problem with a lot of state and federal campgrounds is that campers are limited as to how long they can stay. We want to put down jacks for 5-6 months. Do you know if any of your state park suggestions allow extended stays?

Thank you,

There are several in South Haven. Would you mind telling us which one you are referring to, and, if you have stayed there, would you stay there again for an extended period? Thank you.

I think he means Sunnybrook in South Haven. It's a nice park and a very nice area, but the lake at Sunnybrook is not much. More of a small pond.

Association Island KOA has lake front sites and they have seasonal sites on Lake Ontario in Henderson Harbor, NY. Their daily rates are reasonable, so I would think their monthly rates would be too. We stay there whenever we go to visit family. Very quiet and beautiful in the summer.

Regards,

You are correct that the limit is usually 14 days for reserving a sight....

Do what I do... Volunteer. I will be staying at a camp in AL from September thru March. Light duty for three days, then off for six days... Free full service site on the lake or river... During the six days off, I'll visit other sights and parks in AL, GA, MS, TN, and LA....

Then in April thru August, I'll go to parks in NC, VA, WV, GA, TN, etc, and stay for months at a time for free.

Yes, some parks have length limits, some don't.... My RV is 38', but others I work with have 40' to 45' RV's and still are doing this...

Good luck and enjoy the RV life...

Regards,
I don't remember the name but it was new in the last 3 years and I think is the only condo park there. We stayed there for a long weekend and would gladly stay again.
