+1 for Lake Havasu... it gives you the winter warmth of Arizona but with the river running through it makes it not nearly so desolate as other desert locations (such as Quartzite). Also it's awesome for ATV'ers as you can ride on the streets. The only downside is it's very popular... we've been trying for 2 winters to book a space but all the good ones are pre-reserved by returning snow birds, this year we were able to book 3 weeks but that was all we could get :(

Sorry for the ignorance but I never new there was a lake in AZ
Until I saw a program on the Travel Chanel and it was on this lake and the boaters and there party's all hooked together. Looks like a blast. What are the temps there Jan,- March?
We are going to Quartzite, we have reservations for the first of the year thru April 1st. Lucky I guess I made reservations one day(about a month ago) and the next day they emailed me that they had a cancel and we got what I believe was a better site. How far is it from the lake too Quartzite?
Thanks, Tim

It's 72 miles from Quartzsite to Lake Havasu City.
Average high temps January to March are 66 to 77 with lows 40-49. Spring brake will bring in the party crowd on the lake otherwise it's pretty quiet.

The 'lake' is really the Colorado River.

Wow I like that, 78 miles that would make a nice day trip.
I'm glad I decided to take the toad.
Is it possible to go too the area where it goes from the River into the lake?
In Minn and the Mississippi River you can. Actually you can take a hwy that follows the Mississippi. That's a fun trip all in it's self
Thanks for the info.
Tim

By road, there's no real "shoreline" road. However, by boat, you can go all the way from Parker Dam (which is the "base" that forms Lake Havasu) all the way north to Bullhead City/Laughlin and Davis Dam, which is the "base" of Lake Mojave. Two things to note, though:

1) watch out for sand bars at the delta where the river broadens into Lake Havasu

2) the Colorado River itself, since it is fast flowing and released from the depths of each preceding lake, is fairly brisk -- less than 60 degrees.

We love Lake Havasu. Also love Parker Dam, and the river below. We had a pretty nice site on the water in Oct, along the beach in Rotary Park. It was great except for a skunk encounter with my 3 YO Airedale. We ended up out in Lake Havasu at midnight getting a shampoo.

Steve is correct re the London Bridge story, we have been going to Lake Havasu since the early 60's (it was an even better place before the bridge in my opinion) boating and dirt bike riding. When I was about 15, my Brother in Law's Dad was in charge of dredging out the channel and building the seawall around the channel under the bridge. I got to spend the summer out there helping work on the bridge and other parts of the project. I was pretty much a go-for due to my age, but they paid me pretty good for my age and I got to use some heavy operating equipment with the real operator. The heat was pretty bad, but we started at 4am and were off by noon, and got to go water skiiing most days after work, some great memories there, I still have a piece of the bridge they gave me.

Yes, Lake Havasu is the Colorado river like Lake Mohave, Lake Mead, and Lake Powell.

Since Lake Havasu is the water supply for Los Angles and Phoenix the water level doesn't fluctuate much, usually around 4 feet below full. Any more than 12 feet and the pumps will suck air.

Boy-o-Boy that picture is sooooo very inviting, I bed those spots are taken by now. Any one want to give out some resorts that have sites like that.
Do they allow bathing in the lake? We used to bath in the St.Croix(sp) River when we camp-boated, you could see bottom when you were chest high in the river pretty clean.
Thanks or any info.
Tim

Yahoo!! Just a few days away and I'm heading to my private lot in Lake Havasu city. I embark on my annual 2 day journey just after the Thanksgiving weekend. Going to enjoy the sunshine and a 1/2 acre to myself this winter.
