Lake Powell Wahweap RV Park & Campground

We are planning a trip out west to the Grand Canyon then heading to Lake Powell. We were looking at staying at Lake Powell at the Wahweap RV Park & Campgrounds in Page, Arizona during a portion of our stay in the area.

Has anyone stayed at the Wahweap RV Park & Campgrounds?

Any comments and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

We have stayed at the park and it was awesome. Great views of the lake and surrounding area. Don't remember how much we paid, but remember it was reasonable. They also have boat and jet ski rentals if your interested. Don't get the pizza at the snack bar, bad, bad ,bad.

Thanks for the comments Chuck & Mary. Based on what you've said it looks like this is a campgrounds we could likely settle in for 7 to 10 days. It's my understanding that there is also some great sightseeing with in a 2 hour radius as well. Any thoughts on anything particular to see while staying there?

So many places to see, so little time! If you can fit it in, Monument Valley on your route back to I 70 is awesome. Zion National Park is within a days trip and of course my personal favorite, was a day on the lake in a boat. Be sure to go through Antelope Canyon by boat on Lake Powell. Enjoy, it is scenery like nowhere else in the USA.

The slot canyons on an Indian reservation are great. I don't recall the fee, but it was worth it. These are narrow canyons that you walk thru...the colors and natural lighting make for an awsome experience. We stayed on the lower level at Waheap and had a great stay.

Take the tour boat ride to Rainbow Bridge. It will be the highlight of your trip.

Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon are about 4 miles east of Page near the power plant. These are slot canyons that the Indians charge a fee to hike. It is well worth the money. Upper canyon is a guided tour the lower is self guided. We spent 2-3 hours in the lower canyon and it was very impressive. Best time for photos is around noon when you get the most sun.

You will love it

we stayed there two years ago and it was probably the nicest campground of our trip. Big level concrete pads and nice tables, grills, views, close bathrooms. Like others have said, take the boat tour up the canyons, they were beautiful. There is also a nice drive down below the dam to one of the few landings on the Colorado river. There is an old settlement there and remains of a sunken steamboat. You will love the campground!

Oh, and try the Canyon King Pizzeria in town. It is the old boat that used to be a dinner cruise boat.

We stayed at this campground about four years ago and it was great. We rented a pontoon boat for a day and enjoyed the lake as we were with our daughter and family. A friend rented a speed boat (motor boat) and was able to travel further on the lake. The day on the lake was one of the highlights of our trip.

We also toured the dam and it was very interesting.

Enjoy!
