Lancaster PA

We'd like to do a quick weekend trip to Lancaster PA in early November. Looking at Country Acres campground. Anyone familiar with it? Looks quite nice. Or any other recommendations in that area?

Be sure to do Central Market in down town Lancaster. One of the oldest markets in the country. On Friday there is also the Green Dragon Market in Ephrata. Both are worth the trip alone.

It is a very nice, neat, scenic campground. We have stayed at others in the area but once we found Country Acres, itís where we always stay now. Ask not to stay in the lower area that backs up to the main road. Those sites are close together also. Remember, most stores are closed on Sundays.

We weren't able to get a reservation there, unfortunately. We're booked at Pinch Pond campground which looks fairly nice too. We'll try Country Acres another time.

We just spent a week at Spring Gulch east of Lancaster near New Holland. Enjoyed it as itís right in the heart of farm country there. Would definitely stay there again. There is also a KOA just down the road from there.

Green Dragon

The Green Dragon market in Ephrata (recommended in post #4) is only open on Fridays but allows free dry-camping in a well maintained grass field adjacent to the parking lot for both Thursday night and Friday night. We've stayed there several times.

We really like Country Acres. We were there the third week of September. They were full every night. Wanted to stay a day longer and nothing was available.

Autumn weekends in PA are tough! We were planning to spend the weekend near Gettysburg - the only available parks were charging $60 - $80 a night if you could get a lot. We are going to leave Hickory Hollow later today and spend the weekend at Shawnee SP instead. I was able to get a site at Country Acres for four nights but now we have to find a place for one night before we go down to Cherry Hill for our nine night reservation.

Between the time I started writing this and now, I had one of those revelations that come along once every few months, I called Cherry Hill and added a night at the front end of our reservation. Whew! We usually only stay one night in a park when we are on the road and have several days between major stops.
