Land between the lakes

Wife and I are going to land between the lakes in Kentucky in a couple weeks. Any suggestions on sights to see, things to do? Maybe even off the beaten path.

NO suggestions other than

KY is of course one of our 50 most beautiful states.
I normally stick to I-75 when IN KY cause I'm jsut "passing through" but there are places I'd like to visit.
Corbin KY (south end of state) is or rather was the home of one Harlan Sandars. who by the way was never in the military (Well a short time but he was too young so he got kicked out) but he sure knew how to cook Chicken, alas today's KFC is not the same product.

And Boon's Tavren is a nice historical sight.

There is also a Fort somewhere where I'm told they have a bit of Gold on hand.

The Homeplace on LBL is nice, a 1850's working farm.

The planetarium at the visitor center is nice. Pattie’s restaurant burnt and hasn’t been rebuilt yet, but the shops and grounds are nice to see. The homestead is nice. A day at Paducah is worth a trip to see the paintings on the flood wall. The national quilt museum is at Paducah. The bison and elk preserve that you drive thru is worth seeing. A lot of antique shops in the area. The playhouse theater in Grand Rivers. We keep a boat there, so we spend a lot of time. We never get tired of seeing the area. This is all between the lakes and Western Kentucky

For sure...and be patient. We had to sit for 30 minutes. We were surrounded. But some nut cases just HAD to plow through the herd and one guy complained that a buffalo had damaged his vehicle.Click image for larger version

My wife and I drove through the preserve for the bison and elk (went around twice actually). We never saw either. We left there and while driving south along the main road, we saw a whole bunch of bison grazing behind a fenced off area.

Few things we did that we enjoyed..

1- we rented a pontoon boat and enjoyed the lake

2- we went to the dam and checked out the little museum they had, that was pretty cool too..

3- Went to Patti's 1880 Settlement and thoroughly enjoyed the meal - Get the pork chop is AWESOME - So are her pies !!

4- Paducah was a neat town to visit as well..

One place we didn't get to, but really wanted to; was where the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers meet... I thought that would be a neat place to check out.. not sure if there is anything "there".. but, thought it would be cool !!

Hopkinsville is supposed to be a neat town too.. didn't get over there, but heard it was a nice place to visit..

Good Luck !!
