We arrived in Las Vegas yesterday. We plan to go down to the strip tomorrow evening. My neighbor here at LVM Resort advises not to drive down there and suggested using Uber, easy and cheaper than a taxi.

We drove near that area today to do some shopping and the 'strip' is obviously many, many blocks long. So, a couple of questions from those who have been here, done it.

1. Where should we land first? We really just want to see the glitz, get a bite to eat. We don't gamble so our time will be mostly spent looking.

2. We see there is a monorail that runs the strip an has 7 stops. Is that a good way to get there? No way we will be able to walk all of it.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The monorail runs about a block off the strip, so you can't see it from the monorail, but there are other sights to see. I like the idea of UBER. There is the "old strip" now called Freemont Street Experience and then the rest of Vegas strip. Both are worth some site seeing. Of course, go at night. The area to the south around NYNY is very photogenic. I do think you would enjoy walking some of it.

The north part of the strip is more "walkable", IMHO. Ceasars, Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn are ones that I enjoyed walking through. MGM, Paris, New York are farther south and are OK. Treasure Island used to have an outdoor night time show. We would walk north from the Flamingo on east side, cross after the Wynn and back down to Bellagio to watch fountain show.

The "Deuce" double decker transit bus runs along the strip and to downtown. You can buy a pass for a few $ that will allow you to get on and off from any stop. There are local and express buses. There are uniformed employees at many stops who will help you buy the pass. Very easy and safe way to travel in Vegas. No need to hail cabs or hunt down uber cars. The bus stops at every hotel (except express).

We used to live there
It's a lot further between the casinos than fist meets the eye.
You'll see lots of folks walking around but not many walk from major casino to major casino. We always took a cab. Easy to get at each casino. Park at one (USE the VALET service and tip $3-$5 when the car is picked up). See that casino, grab a cab to the next one you want to see. Easy and fast.
You can cover several casinos with a short walk between at the corner with the MGM Grand . Moving walk ways and overhead walkways across the streets.
Don't miss the musical water show in front of the Bellagio (score card available inside the casino.
Treasure Island has a pirate show out front of the water fall at night (sinking ship and all)
The roller coaster at the NY-NY is a lot of fun
Never rode the big ferris wheel but I hear it is expensive
I would recommend one show to see, Go see Mystere at the Treasure Island. Highly recommended for a Vegas show. Go online and find good discount tickets from the casino.
You'll find after a few casinos that they are all mostly the same in the gambling area. They are all big concrete boxes just decorated differently inside.
If you want to eat you'll find some world class restaurants in casinos but be aware of the prices $$$$$

Thanks for all the tips. I think we have a plan for tonite.... if we don't see all we want to see, we will go back tomorrow night.

We will use Uber to take us to Fremont Street first. After seeing that, we will either take a cab or the Deuce down to the Palazzo. From there we will walk until we are done then Uber back to the RV park.

Best cheap eats in Las Vegas is at Ellis Island casino. It is a block east off the strip on Koval and Flamingo is the cross st. Great BBQ, and they have their own microbrewery beer $2/pint. They also have a restaurant with daily steak specials for like $8 including a beer. Also pizza place inside. Smaller locals type place, but for cheap eats and drinks, can't be beat. Seriously, try it and you will agree.

As long as you don't mind walking, that is my preferred way to go up and down the Strip (Las Vegas blvd). You can stop where you want for shopping or to see inside the casinos. All of the casinos have parking lots you can park for free behind the casino. You can valet if you want. Eating on the Strip is generally expensive, even the buffets are $30 range at the big casinos.

Fremont St is a lot of fun. Again, just park and then walk the couple blocks that is no vehicles and pedestrians only. Watch the overhead light video show. Obviously best at nighttime. It is too far to walk from Fremont St to Strip, definitely need to drive/ride between them.

Taxi service in Vegas is "iffy" at best. Taxi drivers if they can get away with it, pad the fare....Meaning to go 5 blocks, they will do you a favor and drive 15 blocks in circles to up the fare. The strip is very walk able, there are many moving side walks....

We have used Uber for our transportation from the RV park to the strip and back. Very pleased. Drivers arrive within minutes, fare is known up front and less than cabs. The Uber drivers have both provided valuable tips including the best locations for pick up and drop off on the strip.
