Last minute camping reservations

Watching an ad for "Priceline", I got to thinking that I've never heard of a service available for those of us who need to find a campground at the last minute.

Hotels place open rooms at a discount on various sites. Has anyone heard of such site for RVer's.

In our area, availability of campgrounds on a last minute basis is nearly impossible without spending lots of time on the phone. Sometimes, we would just like to get out of town for a weekend.

And now, the discussion ..........

I couldn't agree more...making any sort of last minute reservation is difficult and time consuming more than anything.

I guess I would boondock it if I couldn't find a minute spot at an rv park.

We never had a problem getting a campsite. No reservations. Do you typically go to the most popular ones or near popular attractions. Plenty of others out there!

With all the internet has to offer it seems it would be a money making site. Some from the places posting their vacancy's and then from advertisers trying to get into our pockets and sell us something and we could search for what's open near where we want to go. Grab a vacancy, make a reservation, place a deposit, win, win.

Reservations or boondocking

Do you make reservations or do you wing it when you make these trips? I have spent days and days trying to plan a trip. Try to figure out how long will I be in each location? Make the reservations, then move on to the next planned destination. That doesn't leave any wiggle room, and I find it frustrating trying to figure out if I can get into a CG to stay in the busy season. Is it worth making CG reservations or winging it and boondocking?

Thanks, Patty

Wouldn't matter here in southern AZ since the snowbirds have all of the rv spaces tied up, at least at the cheaper state parks. Real hard for us locals to get a space without booking it well in advance. But they'll soon be gone when the temps get into the 80's.

This is the issue we have in our area in the summer. Making reservations a year out is not an uncommon practice. Your snowbirds are our neighbors. [emoji1]

In our area, boondocking is not an option. When we plan a longer trip, we usually boondock overnight until we get to our destination. We nearly always have reservations at our destination. Since I am still working, we have no wiggle room when traveling.

We find the same thing durring the winter in FL for the state parks. Nearly impossible to find anything on the weekends. During the week, you may find a spot here or there for one of two nights. We wouldn't mind switching sites, but that requires separate reservations with another Reserve America Fee.

When we travel during the summer, we seldom make advanced reservations, except in popular resort areas, and don't usually have a problem.
