We are leaving Seattle and heading for the coast and points south including Oregon. I would appreciate some info on what campgrounds we could stay at without needing a toad.
We would like Full Hookups, close to stores and restaurants, close to ocean for walks. If nothing in walking distance maybe a shuttle to town. First stop around Astoria.

If I stay in Lincoln City, I can rent a car. Can I cover points north and south from there in day excursions or should I also get down to Florence area?

Not asking for much am I? LOL

But I know if anyone WILL know, it will be one of you out there.

We just drove the California and Oregon coast's about 2 months ago. We chose to stay in state parks with the exception of 2 nights. I think what you are asking for full hook ups ,close to town etc you'll just have to search private parks thru TrailerLifeDirectory.com and that will be your best bet.

Dogpatch...we came South from Seattle and are presently at Winchester Bay RV resort, which is on the water. Great CG with crab shacks close by. Last year we stayed at Cannon Beach, which was ok for a day, but I found it touristy. We found the coast coolish and for a summer experience we headed inland, staying at Caseys RV park in Oregon and 7 feathers in Canyonville. Its 730 am and this morning I'm completely socked in with marine fog/cloud, whatever you call it, cant see a thing infront of me. so be warned if you don't mind cooler temps, then the coast is for you. We mixed it up this year and took a little of both. After Winchester Bay, we are headed for McMinnville, wine country and to see the Aviation & Space Museum, where the Spruce Goose is kept. If you're headed across 101 through Port Townsend and the down the WA coast, you're not going to find much in the way of big towns, big stores, etc., west ot PT. Most towns have small populations with some tourist resorts close by, but the "supermarkets" are more on the lines of 7-11 than Wal Mart. Ocean Shores is the nearest thing to a big town, but it's still fairly small except immediately around the hotels at the beach.

Interesting scenery, particularly the Hoh rain forest and the area around where Lewis and Clark wintered over.

Troutdale, OR, and I think the CG was called Sandy River CG. Short half mile walk into town, maybe a mile or so to the Outlet Mall. CG is on the Sandy River with water access for cold dipping. It may be further inland they you plan, but keep it in mind. Other than that one we typically try to avoid in-town staying.

There are also great state parks in the area of the Dunes, where we presently are. We chose this RV park because ATV, which are in huge numbers at most other sites, are not allowed. The Dunes are awesome and you can rent ATVs. If you have kids they would really enjoy it. At 1050 hrs, the weather has cleared and its beautiful. Just cool.....66 degrees.

There is a web site called "Oregon Coast Highway 101 Mile by Mile" it has a lot of good information that may help you, it lists all the cities along the Oregon Coast and what they have including RV parks. Happy Travels

Given your requirements I think you'll want to look at private parks. They're not nearly as nice as the State Parks on the OR coast, but that's the only way you'll get within walking distance of towns. I don't know many, but Winchester Bay (already mentioned) and Bandon RV Park come to mind.

Winchester Bay RV Resort is actually a county park and is really nice. Lovely sites with water views and easy walk to the small town of Winchester Bay.

Bandon RV is a crowded park, but walking distance to downtown Bandon and Bandon beach which are both lovely.

As a regular Oregon coast RV'er I can tell you that the state parks will be out as far as walking. Some places we have stayed that are close to shopping, etc:
- Cannon Beach RV resort
- Premier resorts Lincoln City
- Port of Newport RV Park
-Port of Siuslaw RV Park in Florence (ask for site on river)
- Winchester Bay RV Resort

Try Pacific City - nice RV park, huge store in the park, nice 'pub' (really, a nice restaurant) across the street as well as the beach access. Nice beach for walking, dog friendly, but watch out for the rabbits in the RV park...
