Long island ny camping

Just got deployed to adjust insurance claims in the long island area. HELP!!! Never tried rving in that area and need advice about everything ---from route into, height and weight restrictions, bridges, tunnels, camp site availability. We are coming from texas in a 37.5 diesel pusher, and a little intimidated at the possibilities of what we innocents and naive travelers might face....so everyone, chime in!

You might wait for the camp site availability until after Irene passes that area.

Long Island has 2 listed at bottom of page.
Web site for one of them

A few more in the area

In NY, STAY OFF the parkways and drive on the EXPRESSWAYS!

So as you come across NJ, it may be best to go a little north and cross over to NY on the George Washington Bridge (UPPER deck) to the Cross Bronx Expressway (over the Throgs Neck Bridge) to the Clearview Expressway which then leads you to the Long Island Expressway.

Bring plenty of cash for the tolls. If you can get an EZ-pass, even better.

Cross Island Parkway, Belt Parkway, Grand Central Parkway, etc. have very low clearance overpasses so stay off!

Also remember to talk like the locals. Say 'yo' and 'lon-guy-land'. Leave all "yalls" in Texas!

As the name implies, it is LONG. About 125 miles long. You'll want to be as close as possible to where you're being deployed as the Long Island Expressway is commonly refered to as a " parking lot ".

Camping on Long Island

Great campgroung at the East edge of Nassau County near Old BethPage. It is a county RV park with 30/50 and water has convinent dump in the park. The park is Battle Row and the phone number is 516-572-8690. We have stayed in the park 3 times in 4 years. They are currently improving the office area. The park is conveinent to shopping and laundry.
Good luck! All of the previous info is accurate.

Best of good camping!
