Leaving Destin Florida late March 2010 for Memphis Tenn. Looking for a one night stand a little more than 1/2 way there. Mapquest has us at 491 miles so I'm guessing at around 250-300 miles out of Destin would be our target.
Anybody?

MS Streets & Trips shows Meridian MS almost exactly half way. We have stayed at Benchmark RV park there (about 4 yr ago) and found it quite decent ...even had free washer/dryers when we were there!! And they are Passport America for a good savings if you are a PA member. They are just of I-45 about 1 mile or so north of I-20 ... believe it would be the Dale Dr exit.

Hi Bdaball!

This is the major metropolitan stop between Memphis and Destin. Try either the Good Sam Campground in Pelham, AL, just south of Birmingham (exit on I-65) or the Oak Mountain State Park about six miles north of this exit (exit 246). The exit at I-65 and Hwy 119 has many, many restaurants and gas stations (cheapest gas in the Birmingham area) especially if you're not towing a car. The Good Sam Campground (next exit on I-65 - 242) location has no amenities, but there are many nearby on Hwy 31 in Pelham if you're towing.

maybe try some of the COE parks around Montgomery, there are several. we stayed at one several years ago, i can't remember the name but think there're kind of grouped together on the southwest side. nice parks with lots of large oaks and hanging moss. paper mill down river, so smell took some getting used to at times, but nice place to stay for a day or two. closer to memphis, look at COE on tenn-tombigbee river, they're good too, but you'll be 2 or 3 hours from memphis.

Easiest quick stop over I have found, if you're going through Birmingham, is Birmingham South Cg in Pelham. Take a peek at Birmingham South Campground . If you're going the Meridian route, Benchmark suggested by AFChap is an alright stopover. Check them at Benchmark Coach & RV Park . Benchmark will be cheaper than Birmingham South. It is a Passport America park. It just depends on which route you want to take.

We stayed at Sleepy Holler in Jasper, AL last spring. It's a bit, um . . . rustic. It's also a bit high ($30 for a 30A full hookup), and has zero amenities. If you can get "Dueling Banjos" out of your head, it's very quiet and peaceful, though.

This was a recommendation? BTW, Dueling Banjos were heard in North Georgia, not Alabama. Now, Sweet Home Alabama is another story - that'll keep you all night. Don't forget the Jack Daniels and PBR.

Try something closer to Birmingham nearer to the Barber Motorsports Park, home of the Porsche Driving School and Porsche 250.

Birmingham South is ok if you don't want to put your awning out...mine touched the neighbors slide and if you like train whistles all night, this is the place for you. We suffered through one night and moved to Oak Moutain State Park.

Another thought, if you're thinking of staying at Birmingham South, may as well drive on to Memphis...you're not going to get much sleep any way.

Services RV Campground near Great Golf, water park, Pearl River Resort

This is one of those unknown places you find when meandering around the country. If you're an avid golfer you may want to spend an extra night to allow for a round of golf in one of the top 100 courses in the country.

Excellent food in all the casino restaurants and the prices are right
