Looking for a Camp Ground along the Miss River

Hoping to locate a national park type area where I might be able to stay a few days watching some river traffic. Core of Engineer type would be great or a commercial camp ground.
Thanks
Dave M

River View Campground

River View Campground is across the river from Natchez and is owned by the town of Vidalia La.. You can watch the boats on the river from inside your RV. Nice walkway along the river.

Hi Dave

Not sure how far you are going but if you get to the Natchez Ms. area you could spend time at the Vidalia Riverview park. The link is The Finest RV Park on the Mighty Mississippi

The Mississippi River is 2,320 miles long, sort of a big request.

Close to the Ohio/Mississippi confluence is: http://parks.ky.gov/parks/recreation...t/default.aspx

It would have a lot of river traffic. Unfortunately Fort Defiance State Park in Cairo IL is closed I believe, it's right on the peninsula between Ohio and Mississippi confluence.

The Huey B. Long bridge in Baton Rouge, LA is the northern limit to ocean going ships on the Mississippi, so if you want to watch ocean and river traffic, that's your northern limit.

Maybe think about Tom Sawyer RV park in West Memphis. We really liked it plenty of traffic on the river.

Great sites right at the riverside. We where there last year in a Class A. They have sites for 5'ers that take advantage of the rear windows.

The are dozens of COE camps along the river, from Minnesota all the way to the gulf. We have stayed at Blackhawk and Grant River, in Wisc. Then Thompsons in illinois, as well as some in Iowa. Google Mississippi river COE...

X3 for Ton Sawyer. We just left there. Ask for a front row site. They cost a little more, but are definitely worth it. You are right on the river with a great view of all the barge traffic.

We stayed at Riverview in Vidalia once. The RV park is behind the levee so the view wasn't as good as Tom Sawyer.

Agree, I have stayed twice here and it is amazing. The channel is on same side as the Park, so you get a great view with close proximity to Memphis!

If you're up in the Wisconsin area... I would suggest Wyalusing State Park...

It's where the Wisconsin River and the Mississippi River meet..

Grant river rec area Potosi Wisconsin. Camp sites are 100 ft from the river. Big rig friendly.

Just got back from spending time at the Tom Sawyer RV Park, W Memphis, Ar. Agree on the great site for watching the river traffic, was a large surprise for this farm kid from the mountains of W Pa.
Had no Idea the size of the barges, 3,300 Ton capacity X up to 42 barges in a single unit, Tugs up to 11,000 HP, Total surprise. Yes enjoyed it.
One small point, if you want a front row site, best reserve early, seem hard to get on short notice. There are only about 12 sites right on the river edge, They do have good sites, with good Voltage, did not need water, the sewer worked just fine.
Thanks
Dave M

I second the River View Campground in Vidalia / Natchez. Very nice camp ground and much to see in the area. See our blog of the camp ground and area.
