Looking for boondocking spot an hour or so from Denver

We're looking to get away for a night or two this weekend but want to stay kind of close to town. We have yet to boondock in our rig so we want to give it a try this weekend.

Does anyone know of a boondocking site an hour or so from south Denver (Littleton actually)?

Confirmed boondocking place from overnightrvparking.com:
WalMart
Address:13420 Coal Mine Ave, Littleton, CO 80127
Phone:(303) 979-2064
GPS:39.607260, -105.151840
39 36.4356 N, 105 9.1104 W
39 36 26.14 N, 105 9 6.62 W
Directions:SR 470, Exit to Bowes Ave, then E on Bowes Ave to first traffic signal beyond interchange, R on Coal Mine Ave ~ 0.2 mi to store on R.

For less crowded part of lot, enter 2md Walmart driveway.

RVer reports that Overnight RV Parking is allowed, confirming reports from Aug 2010. Park parallel to curb on outer perimeter of lot, either as far from store as possible, or on S side of store closest to SR 470. Lot entrance driveways lead to awkward turns; this & many lot islands make this a difficult lot for maneuvering larger rigs. McDonald's in store.

There's also a Sams Club not far from the WalMart at 505 S Broadway, Denver

Boondocking Outcome

Well, we ended up going to Rampart Range on Saturday afternoon and found a pull off spot with tons of room, a fire pit with some wood and no one else to be seen. We enjoyed a beautiful night with a campfire and smores.

The road itself if a "maintained dirt road" with washboard errosion almost the entire way. A few times when I was going about 10 miles per hour I thought the MH was going to fall apart!

Rampart Range is a big motorcycle/ATV destination and they started arriving at about 7:30 and were in full force by 8:00. We knew this was the case so we expected it and it was fine.

We departed after breakfast and went a few miles further down Rampart Range road to the Devils Head trailhead. We made the 1.5 mile hike up to the fire lookout tower and climbed the 143 stairs to the lookout station. If you're in the area, this is a must see in my opinion! The view is spectacular .

Our next boondock adventure will be somewhere on Guenella Pass. I have heard good things about camping in that area.
