Looking for Campground in South Florida

Hi Everyone, Mike and I plan on staying in Florida from January thru the end of March 2014. As we are new to camping, we need a little help on which campgrounds to look at. We will be picking up our 45' on August 1st in Florida, so we plan on checking out the campgrounds then and making a reservation. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Karen

If you want to go first class - go to Bluewater Key in Key West. Www.bluewaterkey.net

If your main concern is reliably warm weather then you need to concentrate on the part of the state south of the Caloosahatchee River.

Miami Everglades is nice. About $900 a month plus electric. All the usual Campground amenities.

You should have been making reservations already the earlier the better Florida state parks can be booked 11 months in advance and the nicer ones book up 11 months to the day. If you are looking for very off beat places not too nice or very high priced you have a better shot at making a late reservation, but its been my expierences that the medium priced very nice clean neat campgrounds in GOOD areas book up early in the season. More and more retirees are getting into the snowbird thing. But don't be discouraged there are higher priced upscale resorts that usually have openings but don't wait too long. Also ask if the place is big rig friendly let them know how long your unit is.

It will depend on what you like to do and what you would like to spend. Anything on the ocean or gulf will be expensive. Anything close not as bad but depending on the park & location still not cheap. The state parks with waterfront will be full by now unless you can catch a cancellation.

We spend our winter in the Keys most of it at a private CG which is even more pricey but you get what you pay for. The 4 Florida state parks in the Keys are $38 a night plus tax but as I said likely to already be booked and you can only stay 14 days at a time.

If there is a area you have in mind there is a campgrounds review here or check Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews or RV Campgrounds, RV Camping, RV Rentals, RV Parks, RV Resorts - Woodalls

There is no getting around the fact that the further south you go in sunny Florida the better the winter weather will be.

I'm checking out all your suggestions now thanks.
We haven't booked anything yet because we don't have an RV yet, but I guess that was a mistake. When we find something this time, we definitely will book quick for 2015.

We will be returning to Naples KOA in December. There will be plenty of organized community activities in the camp and many neat places in the area to visit. There are several other CGs and Motor Coach Resorts down there as well.

There is Boyd's on Stock Island, an easy bicycle ride into Key West. Sugarloaf KOA at MM 20 is nice, from the times I've been there the people are great also. I think that's about it below the 7 mile bridge.

We really enjoyed Red Coconut on Ft Meyers Beach and that should be deep enough south for nice weather. We were there in March. They have sites on the beach and also across the narrow street. Plenty to do and eat on the island. Old Florida charm.

We also stayed a night in Gulf Air RV at Ft Meyers before finding Red Coconut. It was nice enough and friendly and mostly permanent units with some RV sites. The shuttle to the beach ran every hour or so for a day trip or dining. Folks were nice.

Check reviews and websites for more info.
