I am trying to locate a CG in or near Gastonia, NC. I have been told that one does exist in the town of Kings Mountain. Sure could use some help!

If you're looking for King's Mountain State Park, it's in South Carolina about 12 miles Southwest of Gastonia, NC.

Thanks Hitchhiker, I know about Kings Mtn. State Park, but I have been told that a small RV park does exist above Hwy 74 in the city of Kings Mtn., NC. I am trying to get as close as I can to do some genealogy history on my family background. Before I left the area back in 1953, I had relatives in S. Gastonia, Spencer Mtn., Statesville, and Newton, NC.

Thanks,
Hobyjack

I sent this to your eMail, but it came back.

Kings Mountian State Park is the only campground I know of and I drive the Kings Mountian area all of the time. Never saw anything but a trailer park in Kings Mountian.

Try looking on an online phone directory like www.411.com/business and do a Business Category Search. Often campground directories do not list all (or any) campgrounds in an area. Campgrounds are also listed as RV or Recreational Vehicle parks. I looked and there is one IN Kings Mountain (B & D Enterprises on Stoney Creek RD (704) 739-2958) and a total of 6 for the ara. Go to the site and do the same search (campgrounds) and it will also display a location map showing relative locations of the various places. I often use the Yellow pages to find campgerounds. Then I do a search online for the name thru Monstercrawlers search engine. I also do searches for the name of the town/state and try to find town/county websites. These sites often have listings for area campgrounds... some will have links to websites and others do not. Sometimes I have to search thru several sites (like Chamber of commerce sites - campgrounds are listed under lodging or recreation or as subcategories under visitor information) to find the info I need. I've pretty much quit using the campground directories.

Here is another link that has a list of highways on the right side of the page. It is covering both So & No Carolina
Good luck...I am envious because it has been so long since I have been out on a genealogy research trip...

PS-what are the main family names you are researching?

Lorna/Monocamama, you are both a jewel, should change names to Sherlock. That is exactly the
place I was looking for. Thanks also for the 411 address. Now maybe my wife and
I can look foward to our trip to Maggie Valley in late Sept. and then down to
Kings Mtn in Oct. Hope we can finish our research and be back across the Smokies
before the first snow. Ha. I was born in Gastonia but left there in 1953. I
have no one left in the area, so research on the family name is going to be
tough.

Thanks Again,
hobbyjack
