Last fall we took our new to us 2000 Damon 40' to a couple camp grounds and were not impressed. We're looking for camp grounds more catered for upper class type camping and let sand and dirt. Is there a section for recommendations for these type of camp grounds?

Most people just go camping without regard to the RV. You are looking for something more.

You can look on the iRV2 "RV Camping Forum". It may help you.

Also, you can google "class a camping resort". But, be aware, some if them have a 10 year MH age limit.

You can try "campgroundreviews.com". It's the "Trip Advisor" of Rving... We are relatively new to RVing as well, and found the same as you. We've stayed at a couple of keepers. The best campground we ever stayed at was on Hilton Head Island SC. The HHI Motorcoach Resort... After staying there, all other campgrounds paled by comparison....

Resorts also come with a price and as campdaven said they will have a age,looks limits and more or less they only want upscale MH.

What part of the country are you in?? Do you use military campgrounds? There is a wide variety. We like forests and state parks. We loved Diamond Lake Oregon, the square dancers place on Lolo MT. Keep track of the ones you like best. Hebgen Lake in Montana.

Try Palm Creek in Casa Grande AZ.......they are as particular as I have seen......

Oh, never mind......they have a 10 year old limit, your 2000 model just won't do

Not impressed with this. Looked at it and it looks like it is a paid advertisement for "certain" rv resorts. They don't list some of the great places we have stayed. BlueWater Key RV resort to name one. Probably the best resort in the country www.bluewaterkey.net.

We haven't done many long hauls yet. Started out in Toledo area and have done upper Michigan and a Nashville trip. Looking forward to some longer trips soon, just moved to Temperance Michigan which took all summer so we'll be planning something for next spring/summer.

Southern Michigan is home now. No military sites.looking forward to retirement in a couple more years. Not much time to travel right now.

I think I know exactly what you mean.

Most camping directories such as Woodalls, Trailer Life etc rate RV "resorts". Woodalls has a one to five star system. It is a pretty good guise to start. We learned early on that we would just look for three star places to stay because we blundered into some really tacky places when we were neophytes. Now we have a list of places we enjoy and since we pretty much stay in the Southwest we go there. You will have the same sort of list soon after you travel a bit.

We have also been fooled on occasion by the ratings, one mans five star is another mans two star etc. Experience counts.

We have stayed at some very nice resorts and so far none has challenged the age of our MH. Of course when we began it was new and even now it looks new so we have not be subjected to any undue scrutiny.

We are not snooty we just know what we prefer. I already spent my time in the sleeping bag on the ground in the tent above the timber line in the snow the rain the hot sun boon docked bushwhacked and head down in the foxhole. Wouldn't trade the memories for anything just do not want to repeat them.

A motor home is as close to camping as my wife wants to get. She calls it an adventure, the three star resorts that is.

Now I just want a nice paved level spot a view of the pool and a relaxing beverage just before a great dinner BBQ by me and fixings prepared by my camp mate and darling wife. No better no worse than anyone around just like what I like and paid the entry fee to get here.

We found ours and soon enough you will find yours.

What I think you are looking for are a bit hard to find as the price per night tends to limit the market. There are a few upscale resorts available. One that immediately comes to mind is Belle Terra in Foley, AL. Try Reviews of RV Parks and Campgrounds - RV Park Reviews and look in the areas you wish to travel to for some ideas. Our experience has been that chances of finding a more upscale place are increased when we are in areas where people winter, like FL and AZ, as opposed to short season camping areas. We, like you, have seen enough dirt, sand, trees, grass, and kids and prefer more upscale.
