We will travel up I-40 on the eastside of the Great Smoky's in April. We are looking for a camp ground for 2-3 days of kayaking, biking, hiking before heading to KY.

Thanks---all

Maggie Valley has some nice campgrounds as well as Cherokee, NC. In TN there are some good state parks along the Obed River between Crossville and Cookville that can be floated. It should be high in April and good to canoe or kayak. Hope this helps.

My vote is also for the Cherokee, NC area. The TL directory has quite a few CGs to choose from. We stay at the KOA in Cherokee.

If you're going to the Cherokee area, you might be interested in Timberlake Campground if you like spaciousness of sites and clean restrooms and don't mind being off the beaten path too far.

They have fishing in the pond and are convenient too sight-seeing the eastern border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's just a short drive to see Fontana Dam, the Cherokee Indian Reservation, Ruby Mines, Maggie Valley and Ghost Town, Indian Drama "Unto These Hills", Newfound Gap, Clingman's Dome, Whitewater Rafting and many other points of interest.

We've held several Appalachian Campers regional rallies there and will go back many times.

Just outside Statesville NC Rt 40 & rt 77 there is a nice campground called MidWay Campground & RV Resort. We stayed there last year site # 25 is the best you have a deck next to your unit right on the lake. site # 19, 20, 21, and 22 are the next best sites you are not right on the lake it is just across the road. #23 and #24 you sit very close to the road with the deck on the other side of the road. We are going back this year and have reserved #25. It is a small lake but we had fun Kayaking in it.

Its a Passport America, $15.00 Full hookups great cable all level sites, called "CREEKWOOD FARMS" about 1 mile off of I-40, 7 miles to Waynesville NC 5 miles to Maggie valley, 30 miles from Asheville NC, lots of white water very close by (Hot Springs) plus others.
