Looking to establish a Home Base

My wife and I are toying with the idea of moving from Florida to establish a home base centrally located more toward family and friends. We travel quite a bit around our part time jobs being we're "retired". We were thinking something south enough where the weather in winter isn't too bad. Our thoughts were maybe central to western Tenn.,in that general area. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Check out The Gardens RV community in Crossville Tennessee located about midway between Knoxville and Nashville right off interstate 40.

We have been to two of their seminars and plan to take a trip sometime later this month to check it out. If you go down with your coach they have a spot called homeless hill you can camp on for a few days while you visit the area. Customers that are having homes built and staying in the RV stay at Homeless Hill.

The Chattanooga area is also nice and has access to freeways leading toward Nashville and Knoxville. It is kind of a crossroads.

We've traveled thru the Chattanooga area quite a few times but have never stayed there. It looks like the area might be something to consider.

We live mostly in Key Largo, but keep our coach at our other home in South Carolina. The weather doesn't get that cold, and saves us a lot in gas keeping it

Another community in the Crossville, TN area is called Cumberland Mountain RV Community. It is located next door to Fairfield Glade, TN. Most of the lots are 1 acre in size. I'm currently selling my home in that community as I sold my motorhome and no longer had a need for the detached RV garage. I moved out West.

Come up to northern NY. Nice weather all year long if you like hot weather in the summer and cold with snow measured in yards in the winter. Spring and fall are a crapshoot.

I live just 30 minutes west of Crossville in Cookeville, TN and highly recommend the entire area. Winters are short and we have 4 distinct seasons. After living here 16 years there has never been a winter bad enough that I couldn't get around in my 2wd pick-up. Crossville did have a bad freak ice storm last winter. Many retirees of all types are relocating to the area.
Chattanooga has milder winters but the tradeoff is hotter, longer, and more humid summers. Both areas have good roads but Chattanooga wins for more interstate choices. Northeast to Knoxville, Northwest to Nashville, Southeast to Atlanta, or southwest to Birmingham. The Crossville/Cookeville area has I-40 for east/west and 111 or 127 for south. North from either into Kentucky and beyond is just curves and hills as soon as you cross into Ky.
So many retirees from Florida have moved here that they have their own name, Half-backs, as in have moved halfway back home.
