Question Los Angeles???

Headed to the LA area for a few weeks and still trying to sort out where to stay! We'll probably stay at Dockweiler for a week or two, but still looking at some good options that would put us close to West Hollywood (where all of our friends live) or Santa Monica (where all of our friends hang out with not in West HW)...

We're in a 34' Class A, so boondocking in Venice isn't an options... :(

Any suggestions???
(BTW - the place in Malibu is just out of their tree on rates...)

Dockweiler is OK. It's pretty much the only game in town, so to speak. Just be forewarned, BRING EARPLUGS! You are literally under the flight path of LAX and the planes (big ones at that) fly 24/7 non-stop.

Also, make sure you have a good water pressure regulator. They even warn you check-in that their water pressure is very high. I found out the hard way that the factory doesn't always fully tighten all the plumbing connections. We woke up with a large puddle in the MH and about 4 to 5 gallons in the basement and under the rig in the morning.

Other than that camping right on the beach in LA was great.

There is another CG in Anaheim near Yorba Linda that is really nice. More of a park setting than parking lot. It's called Canyon RV Park, but its about 30-60 minutes drive to LA, depending on traffic.

Other than that, its something near Disneyland.

Enjoy the trip!

You can try Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach. It's in a great location that's close to the marina, Queen Mary, comedy club, restaurants, and freeway.

Malibu is Malibu and Dockweiler, is well, right under the LAX flight path and next to the LA sewage plant. So you pretty much get what you pay for.

Btw, the famous Malibu beach is not much for playing in the water as it has a very rocky bottom, and you'll get run over by surfers, but I would never ever get in the water at Dockwiler.....

Alternatively you can jump into the valley and stay at Balboa RV Park or Walnut RV Park in Northridge. LA Traffic is, well, LA Traffic, but those are two additional options.

As a side note, if you (or any others thinking about vacationing in So. Cal) are really not familiar with the LA / Orange County area, what may look reasonably close to West Hollywood (or anyplace else) can very easily be an hour or signifacnatly longer drive (any time of day, it's not just an early morning / late afternoon rush hour issue there).

Even drivng from Malibu into West Hollywood pretty much sucks any time of the day........ (Certainly unlike what they make look like a nice 10 minute jaunt on TV shows).

So before you make any decision / reservations, I would suggest to talk to your friends about thier plans and where you think you want to stay so you can have a reasonable expectation on getting around.

Have fun!

Speaking of Malibu. There's Malibu Creek State Park on Malibu Canyon Road.
