Loss of power at pedestal.

We are at a RV park in Wisconsin and breaker at pedestal has popped off twice . It is very hot but is this a common problem at parks

Had that happen to me. Breaker wouldn't stay on. Contacted CG maintenance and problem was breaker. They replaced it and all was fine.

Depends. If your on a 30 amp breaker and your using over 30 amps like two air conditioners and a microwave, like breaker is doing it job.

The breaker tripped due to heat gain, 130 degree black supply cord ( sun heat ), heavy amp draw on 30 amp cord = tripped breaker. As a park manager, I have observed that 90% of tripped breaker problems in our park are on 30 amp rigs. Rigs with 50 amp systems, which are really two legs of 50 amps or 100 usable amps, almost never reach max amp draw. As air temps go over 100 , 30 amp rigs, with the air conditioner and a couple of other things on, are very close to max amp draw. The hotter it is, the harder the air conditioner has to work drawing more amps. Cleaning the plug prongs with emory cloth will lower the cord temp by 20 degrees. It is not always due to weak breakers. Customers are rarely receptive to the idea that the problem may be their coach electrical system and the fact that they are not "managing" their amp load. The same breaker wasn't tripping yesterday...and works fine for the next customer in that space and the next...and the next. AND yes we do check the amp draw at the ped and verify that the power supply connections are correct. Ask any park manager and they will tell you that breaker issues are a summer problem only. You may have a different experience....Let the flames begin...

That is not normal at all. Contact the CG management. It may be something as simple a a bad breaker. Or ask for a different site.

I agree , you can tell people and tell them, time and again, and even if they have problems they won't listen . 30 amps will only handle one air conditioner on a hot day, you can't even think about using the micro-wave or electric on the water heater. Yet they will be inside; A/C on; nuking their popcorn while the DWs using a hair dryer wondering why everything shuts down.

We didn't have anything excessive on. I'd understand if we had above the amperage. Bad breaker, fixed now. Thanks to the folks with the pertinent info to help!

DW and I have learned that AC + Electric water heater + Refrigerator + Microwave = Popped circuit breaker inside the TT. Not at the pedestal. FWIW, I *think* my TT has a 20 amp internal breaker on the 120v wiring. It takes some work to overload that 30 amp circuit on the pedestal. While adamfolger makes some legitimate points, blowing a 30 amp breaker with a house load that is probably only around 20 amps probably is a strong indicator that the breaker on the pedestal is marginal at best.

FWIW, DW has also learned that we cannot run the AC when connected to the home shore power - it's only a 15 amp circuit.

Hi Tony...and when he moves to a different site and still trips the breaker...what should park management do for him? Give him a 30 -50 amp pig tail. That's another myth. The 50 amp plug will be harder to trip, so the customer will simply fry the pigtail or the power cord.

Maybe your right Skip... They don't want to hear it.

bevo7; I wasn't saying you were at fault , but the main reason the breakers fail is excessive load and every time they trip , the tripping become a little easier, too bad they don't market a C/B with a digital monitor to tell the person plugging in , how may times the breaker was over loaded before he got there.
Could be a real eye opener.

Once a breaker pops it's hot so you reset it and it pops it's now hotter so on, if your not drawing to much amps probably bad breaker.
