Louisville, Ky to Jacksonville, Fl

We will be making this trip in about 3 weeks in our MH, with a car on a tow dolly. I would like to avoid as much mountainous highways as possible. And, if possible, and avoiding going thru Atlanta traffic would be desirable too.
We will be traveling on a Saturday and Sunday.
What route would you travel, or recommend?

I was thinking about taking I-64 west to Lexington, then south on I-75 to Knoxville, where I would take I-40 west to Asheville, then east on I-26 to I-95 south.
I went that way once before and there were not as many mountains as I thought. But, I am open to your ideas.

If you had simply asked, without describing your last trip/route, I would have suggested the same. As you found out, the steepest grades are I40 between Sevierville TN and Asheville NC. If you're good with those, I don't think you'll find a better route that isn't WAY out of your way.

Travel safe, and have fun!

Time it so you go through Atlanta on sunday morning. Early Sunday morning traffic is almost nonexistent.

Least Mountainest

You might want to consider taking I65 south to I65 exit 93 in Alabama to US31 south to Florida Hwy 87 to I10 east to Jackson. This route is longer, but I have found it faster than traveling I75. It is all up to which you are most comfortable traveling.

If you are going to use I-40, keep your eye on the weather and the Asheville news.

That stretch is prone to truck rollovers (usually 3-4) per year and landslides/rockslides in heavy rain. Either one could leave you sitting on I-40 for 4-12 hours at 0mph.

And as you remember, you will still need to go back down on the other side.

X2 UNLESS There is an event at the stadium on a Sunday, like football. We have tried going both around and straight trough. Straight through, off peak hours works best for us. That is not to say we like it! LOL

We make the trip from Elizabethtown, KY to Orlando frequently and second the suggestion for going through Atlanta, either at low traffic times or on a weekend (Sunday morning, early). Unless there is an accident or some other disruption to traffic flow, it is much shorter than other routes. We also have done the Alabama (I-65) to 231 and then to I-10, and although it is longer, you don't have the congestion of Atlanta, plus there are some convenient campgrounds in AL to break up the trip.

All the best! Bronk
