Loveland - Longmont CO area RV park

We're planning an extensive out west trip this fall and have everything pretty well nailed down except a place to park the mobile mansion for our visit to the Loveland/Longmont CO area. We have some old Wisconsin friends that now live in Longmont. We want to be able to visit with our friends and have easy, or at least reasonable access to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National park while there.

Problem - I've done internet searches and I've visited both the IRV2 campground review area and RVparkreviews.com and I'm just not seeing anything that makes me want to stay there. Some nice public parks, with limited hookups, or private parks with comments like "tight", or difficult access entering or exiting.

I'd appreciate any suggestions or testimonials to help us make a choice.

Thanks.

St. Vrain State Park (aka Barbour Ponds) is a nice place to camp that is just outside of Longmont and just off I-25. There is very little highway noise especially if you select a site in the northwest area of the CG. It was under water during the floods last year but it should be fully operational during the summer.

I have stayed at Johnson's Corner RV Retreat in 2008 and it was fine. I stayed at Riverview RV Park & Campground last year and it was not fine, it was a dump that needed serious tree trimming and cleanup.

I would not stay at Johnson's Corner.

You could also look at Boyd Lake State Park. We stayed in our 38' MH and had no problem getting in and out. Nice walking, running, biking trails around the park and decent space between sites. It's a little older and the sites need updating, but we've always enjoyed staying there and the bath/shower house is pretty new. You'd need a reservation though. Also, agree on St. Vrain.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

Are the new full hookup sites at St Vrain fully accessible with our 43' rig? With the vehicle fees (assuming they'll charge for both the toad and the motorhome) it would be $40 per night, but it looks like it may be well worth it.

In the header photo the Boulder fairgrounds park looks to have very tight sites, and I see there are no sewer hookups.

Ended up making reservations at the Ft Collins KOA.

The state park was a great idea, but limits length to 40ft.

Thanks again for the suggestions. We'll have a bit farther drive for our visit, but will also have a nice long full hookup site.

We might have stayed at one of the parks in Estes Park (where we stayed the last time in the area, 13 years ago) but I'm hoping to make it to Moab in one day when we leave CO and that would have added a lot of time to our departure day, not to mention time added to our arrival day when we'll be coming from the Black Hills.

See ya on the road...

Heard great things about the Ft. Collins KOA, I think you'll be pleased. When I had a Cardinal 5th Wheel they had a National Rally there. I couldn't attend, but everyone raved about the time they had and the facilities. Randy

Stayed at Riverview RV Park on the River during summer 2013. We enjoyed it. It is a nice park with a beautiful setting.
