I've been been cruising websites - any opinions on which of these to choose?

I've camped at Mountain Stream and thought it was a real nice park. Never been to Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground so I can't compare.

I think Mountain Stream closes November 15 for the winter, you might want to call them to make sure they're open before pulling in.

We've got a group camping @ Mountain Stream this weekend. One family was there this summer and was really impressed.

I have been to Mountain Stream and really loved it. I would highly recommend. If coming in from the South the road is just fine.

This is a good post for me - as I am considering one of these 3 parks in June!
I was just worried about how steep the road is into MaMa Gertie's. We pull our 4,100 lbs trailer with my GMC Envoy.......it is an inline six cylinder......and don't know anyone who can tell me how steep it is! I contacted owners but I guess they don't know what a GMC Envoy is! hahaha

Thanks anyone,

Jo

I would highly recommend Mountain Stream. We really love that campground and not hard to get to when coming in on the south side.

We have stayed at both. Mama Gerties is a nice park built into the side of a steep hill wit quite a few "permamnent" residents. The spaces are small and the drive up to it is very steep. It is worht stopping at but it doesn't compare to Mountain Stream. Mountain Stream is a post card place. It is beautiful. The owners are delightful and if you can be there on a weekend they have a marvleous night of music for the entire family in their large covered pavilion. The spaces are good sized with half the spots backing up to a swift running trout stream. We love it. It is about 1/2 hour off I-40 and about 15-20 minutes outside Marion, NC. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with Mountain Stream. The only draw back is you are out of cell coverage there. Also you are only about 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway ....but they don't recommend taking your trailer, 5th wheel, or MH up the road to the BLP using the road they are on. I guess there are too many switchbacks and tight turns.

There are a few tight switch backs when you head north up NC-80 from Mountain Stream, however using reasonable and prudent driving and just a few mountain driving skills there's no reason you can't enjoy this beautiful ride up to the Parkway. The Parkway is a vacation trip in itself.

I live just about 25 miles north of the Parkway and we have traveled it both directions many, many times. last summer we traveled all the way to it's northern most end and then took the Skyline Drive on our trip to the national Rally.
