Mama Gertie's near Ashville, NC

Looking for campgrounds near Ashville and Mama Gertie's comes up with many positive reviews. Only question is many talk about the steep hills inside the campground. Has anyone stayed there that can comment? I have a gas Class A towing a car so I am wondering if the hills are going to be an issue.

Alternative near Ashville

Have not been to Mama Gertie's. However we have stayed a couple of times at Rutledge Lake. Very nice little campground with mostly back in slots. Pretty close to Asheville and Biltmore. Once you turn off the interstate you turn into their road between an IHOP and a Sonic. Several restaurants in the immediate area and close to shopping. Not immediately adjacent to an airport, railway, or an interstate.

As folks say, steep, but nothing a competent driver can't handle. We towed all the way up to the point of backing in, but others disconnect at the office and come back later for the tow. When we were there the "follow me" driver was a big help in directing us to back in. Just take your turns wide and don't panic.

We've stayed at Mamas a couple of times in our gas class A. You do have to unhook the toad at the office..but that's not a problem. The sites are terraced into the hill and you are escorted by staff. we really enjoyed our stays there and plan to go again. It is up the hill but we didn't have any problems.
