Thinking of heading to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky for next years summer vacation. We've found some campgrounds in the area and researched them the best we could online and at RV Parks Review website. We have a 3 & 8 year old kids, so we'd like the CG to have something to entertain them some, ie pool, playground. These are the parks we've found so far in the area and are interested in any feed back on them from your personal experience or any other parks in the area. Thanks.....

Diamond Caverns Resort campground
Jelly Stone Park
KOA in Horse Cave
Nolin Lake State Park
Baren River Lake State Park
Crystal Onyx Cave Campground

We made the mistake of booking into "Jellystone" in Mammoth Cave,Ky. (2001)

At that time--the electricity on our site was 20 amp, at best. Management offered to move us to another site but advised us that it wasn't going to be any better on "that" site. So we worked around the electrical shortcoming.

Next area of concern was the pool.

Overcrowded would be an understatement. Locals,[paid a fee] combined with the campers, overcrowded the pool beyond belief!
Jumping in on top of people in the pool, was not our idea of a good time. Apparently it was considered a sport by some.
There was no enforcement of any rules at the pool. It was total mayhem! Management just shrugged their shoulders.

Granted, the Yogi outfit did have programs for the children but,we were seeing the coutryside most of the day, so unless you're going to hang out at the park all day, that really isn't too important.

After five days at the Jellystone so called "Resort"[web sites can be so misleading], we moved over to Nolin State Park--much better!

So anyway--while you are in the area be sure to take the kids to "Down Under" http://www.kdu.com/ very nice take. Of course don't forget the Cave--do make reservations early--in order to obtain the tour you want.

RStafford,

We visited Mammoth Cave in July and stayed at Cave Country RV Campground. By the looks it is a pretty new park. No swimming pool, but I would recommend it over the others we saw in the area. For me it had all the important things, pull-thurs, WI-FI access and good power, sewage and water supplies. There are a number of entertainment type place located in the surrounding area. They range from go-carts, to Dinosaur exhibits and a Wild West Park. That's just what I remember seeing as we didn't visit any. I did hear the shots from the gunfight at the Wild West Park. The one minus is there is not a lot of shady sites, if any in the park.
