Mammoth Cave tours ? (Sequester)

Was looking forward to our June trip to the Mammoth Caves area. Was checking tour availability on the government website and noticed many of the cave tours were not offered from the printed tour paper I had from the 2012 summer tours. It has been 25 years since my wife and me have been there.

I called to see why most of the good tours were not listed ( Grand Ave, Snowball, Violet City Lantern, River Styx). They said because of the Federal Sequester many cuts have been made to the tours offered. But then I called again a few days later to ask another question and they said no, it was because they are "re-wiring the lighting in the cave" ?%@?*/?

Both said because of the limited tours, I should book ahead. I ended booking 4 tours that remain last Friday...

Was thinking...Why would the our government cut programs that brought in $$$$ you know the "stuff" that runs the country? Most of the tours cancelled were the more pricier tours at $14 to $25 per person. Figure 40-70 people per time slot and your looking at $800 to $1700 per tour......

We will be there 8 nights, 4 at the federal campground and 4 at Nolan Lake State Park.

Any feed-back...?

Yes, the politicians want to create maximum pain to the tax paying public for not letting them continue spending what ever they want to spend. Tax revenues will set a record in the 2013 fiscal year but its not nearly enough for them. Remember when you vote.

I think the bureaucrats want the public to think that a 7% cut is going to cause the sky to fall. They want to make a show of how a cut can only result in fewer services instead of fewer meetings in Las Vegas or Puerto Rico.
