OK, for our May vacation week we are looking for a couple nights (3-5) stay in either Elk Neck State Park or Tuckahoe State Park.

We are looking to camp, hike, ride our road bicycles and do some photography. I see that Tuckahoe has kayak rentals, that also would be a plus.
So if you have been to either what did you like or dislike?

We have been to a couple of Maryland SP's, but not to either of the ones you mentioned. I just wanted to say that the ones we went to were very nice and Maryland has a state 'Golden Age' pass that is free to anyone 62 and over. That makes their parks high on our list of favorite SP's to visit.

Thanks Bob, we have also been to Cunningham State Park last May, it was one of the cleanest parks.

Thanks for the Golden Age pass info, I have 21 years before I can get mine..

Cunningham was one of the SP's we visited along with Greenbrier. PA also has some nice SP's. We stayed at the Promised Land SP on our way north last spring. Wish we had more time to spend there. Happy travels,

I would love to stay in a PA state park but they have a two dog limit per site.

We stayed in Elk Neck State Park six years ago and absolutely loved it. The sites were fairly large. The restrooms were older but clean. The two rivers were completely different, one with a silt bottom and loaded with mussels and such, the other with a clay bottom and perfect for swimming. We actually were just talking about going back as we have not been there in quite some time and loved it when we were there.

We just tried to get reservations at Elk Neck for Memorial day weekend and they were pretty well booked up. We ended up making reservations at Seven Points in PA

Check with them soon as they seem to fill up fast.

You can't bring alcohol into Maryland State Parks, unless you are in
a motorhome. And even then you can not have alcohol outside. You would
have to abstain or put it into another container. How stupid !

That is fine my us and I really do not think it is stupid. Have you ever camped at a private park only to hear loud drunks yell over loud music played until all hours of the night? No thanks. So if it is no alcohol equals no noise, I am all for it. Beside we usually plan on some 40+ mile bicycle rides in the morning so drinking alcohol the night before is not a great idea since the idea is to keep hydrated.

I'm looking at a place for the Labor day weekend in September and Reserve America shows this place as booked solid. What are the chances this is true?

Two thoughts.

Yes I do believe this place would sell out. We were there in May and were discussing with the park staff how busy the campground and recreation area get during the summer season. There are signs on the road indicating to expect delays on weekends.Here is a picture of site #20. Remember that Gettysburg, Baltimore and DC are very close by.

Another would be that they only accept reservations so many months in advance.

Might be worth giving them a phone call.

I did call and the 37 foot length was the issue. Going to 35 feet a few opened up, 25 foot opened up more. But the place is actually sold out of spots big enough for my MH

I was thinking about Vermont anyway

I think the 30' sites would be enough for a 40' motorhome. Again we were on site #20 and that site is listed as a 30' site. Look at my picture, there was plenty enough room for a longer motorhome.

Yours will fit in a spot for a 35'.

If you are going to Vermont. We have been to North Beach Campground in Burlington. Great place.
