+1 on the Rafter Bar J. We just love that campground and Hill City which nearby.

Happy Holiday RV Resort

Does anybody think that this RV place is good?

I thought the rafter J looked nice, but was concerned about the level sites?

We're not really the best at leveling, etc.

Elkhartjim - All those wonderful memories from last year - what were your favorite places on your trip? We're heading from Massachusetts, through Ohio, I think maybe into Minnesota, and thought Rapid City was a good stop point, we can rent car from there to go to Devils Tower, and then another daytrip to Rushmore and the Mammoth fossil site - then head down towards
Kansas City and east from there?

Love the recommendations/ good/bad anything! Thanks all!

Here are some other cg's in the area with reviews.

RV Park Reviews :: Hill City, South Dakota ( SD ) - RV Parks and Campground Reviews

We liked Rafter because of it location and I don't remember if I had to use my jacks or not. As I recall the sites were pretty level. Good wifi and cell service. We had friends staying at the KOA and had neither.

Please do the Needles Hwy drive and please drive through Custard state park.

Convinced!

Everyone convinced me and I booked 4 nights at the Rafter J! I'm sure
it will be great. Even got the car rental confirmed there! Things are really going well for the planning.

We have booked the campground across from Mount Olympus water and theme park, in Wisconsin Dells for 2 nights, plan on stopping at the Mall of America for a few hours, and then head to the Rafter J!

Now, if only we could both be assured that work won't raise it's ugly head when we're away!

Two things..carry an axe for the work thing and tell Todd to buy you an ice cream one night. Todd owns rafter j.

So when you come to St. Paul from the Dells come west on I-94, don't take I-90 it's longer that way. Then when you're almost to St. Paul take the I-494 loop south/west from I-94. That will take you directly to the Mall of America. I live 10 minutes from that Mall. Lots of rv parking available on the north side of it. There's an Ikea right there too if you like that stuff. I got stuck in that stupid store once and will never go back. I'm going to pm you my cell phone and you call me when you're in town if there is anything I can do to help you. I'm life long St. Paul so I know this area pretty good. If you need to stay longer in the cities (St. Paul/Mpls) you are welcome to park in front of my house too. I'm central between the two, right near the Ford plant. I've got electric and water hookups too.

Then when you leave the MOA go west on I-494 to I-35W south. Take that down to I-90 and go west.

It looks like they've got no internet on the trip. Or maybe they're having too much fun and not wasting time on line? I talked to them last night and they're at the Dells. Sounds like the trip is going very well for them so far.

Too much fun!

Bob, we are having fun! Too much fun to be onthe computer!
If you ever have the urge, try www.driveatank.com - located in
Kasota, MN.

Expensive, but a once in a lifetime event (if you're not military!)
Woody got to talk with two extremely knowledgeable gearheads (their words) about the two tanks that he learned how to drive, and then drove!
And the kids got to go in the tank with him while he was driving!

Then, woohoo, he got to shoot some guns, including an old machine gun!
Said it was the best father's day present he ever had.

It's the only place in the United States that you can drive a tank!

We made it to the KOA in Sioux Falls last night. We had to find a campground that we could see the basketball game (unfortunately). To the Rafter J tomorrow!

PMJGMG, yep they have a few RV parks in the Dells as I live south of the Dells and enjoy the fishing at the Wisconsin River Dam for Walleyes.

we stayed at the american resort rv park just across from mt. olympus, because we don't have a toad, walking distance was important. It's not the best park, however.
