McCord AFB... Places Near By

My son is flying in to be with his daughter (who will 2) who is at McCord (he is stationed at McGuire in NJ).... Long Story why they are on different coast..

This will all happen towards the end of May and we would like to be close to McCord.....I know it will be around Memorial Day so if we need to make reservations I would like to make them ASAP....

I highly doubt we will be able to stay on the Base........

Thanks LeeB

American Heritage RV Park. RVparksreview has it listed as in Olympia but it is actually in Lacey. You will be glad you stayed south of JBLM. There is also one in the Nisqually Valley but looks o.k. For an overnight but somewhat close to the 5.

If memory serves there is a military RV park at the south end of the field on the air base.
But the jet traffic might be a little noisy. Otherwise non military would be above.

Both McChord and Ft. Lewis have FamCamps. They may be able to arrange for you to stay at one of the two. The fairgrounds in Puyallup are pretty spartan but are a place to consider too.

Depending on the base regulations the military member might be able to sign you in as his guest.

Good Luck

X2 what going_postal said. Not all installations honor the policy of the military member sponsoring a non-military family member to use FamCamp facilities but most do. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I live in the neighborhood and checked out some local parks for friends.
American Heritage in Olympia is a very nice park with shaded sites.
Nisqually Plaza is not well kept and has constant traffic noise (it's basically under I-5) with very tight spaces and lots of older RV's.
If you don't mind staying in a gravel parking lot with FHU, Washington Land Yacht Harbor in Lacey/Olympia is a quiet residential neighborhood; very close to Costco, grocery and drug stores, fuel stations, restaurants, etc. and easy access to I-5.
