I didn't get in to the Caldwell rally but found a place to stay for a week in a great place and there's a blue grass Gospel festival to boot. This campground is on a 150 acre ranch and very unique. Full hookups available reasonable price. It's Salmon Lake Park in Grapeland Texas. The owner has over the years found old buildings and old cars and trucks and moved them to his farm it's like visiting the past. Salmon Lake Park Index. It is definitely something to see. The concert if scheduled for this weekend. Plus the town of Grapeland is a blast from the past. Went to Walmart and on the way came across a field of Zebras. What a surprise that was. And we hadn't been drinking We found out it was a safari park.
This has been the highlight of our Texas trip so far. Next is Waco. I have some photos.
The first pic is of a building one of many old buildings in Town
The second is an example of autos on the property at the park
This is a campground that is a must see

Going to Waco on I35, there is West, Tx and a great stop for Czech bakery. Czech Stop & Little Czech Bakery. Around mile marker 351 I think. And in Waco, the Texas Ranger Museum and Dr. Pepper Museum downtown. Happy Trails.

We got a spot at Holiday Trav-L park on the bay between Corpus and South Padre - also lots of room on South Padre at Isla Blanka park

Speaking of West, the Czech Stop is on the East side of I-35. On the West side of 35 is the newer Slovacek's. Both are highly recommended. We favor Slovacek's just because they have a dog park(!) and tons of parking, which makes it a no-brainer rest stop for us. Plus, we've seen the Czech Stop a million times already. If you've never stopped in West before, start with Czech Stop, it is an institution in these parts.

We are definitely planning to hit Slovacek's for lunch on our way out to Caldwell on Thursday... Damn, now I'm hungry!

Also in West, close to the corner of Main and Columbus St. The Czech American Restaurant. Great food. It used to be owned by my great uncles. 2 brothers. I met only one of them before they passed. On the right side, they had the beer and on the left side they had the soda fountain and confections. The marble counter from the confections side is still there as well as most of the bar on the right side. There used to be a loft up top in the back. They sold records up there. When my dad was a kid, he helped out up there and still has piles of 78 cowboy records he got there. Most of the wiring is still original. Don't look at that.

Indeed, late-morning to mid-day Friday is looking pretty wet. Plan accordingly.

Our plans are to travel on Wednesday morning. We may even up it to Tuesday evening. We will sit and watch the weather come and go. In fact, that's the most exciting thing that we will probably do. Most of my plans are to just sit in one spot.

Memorial Day Outing In/Near TX - Short Notice

Try Winstar or Choctaw casinos just over the Oklahoma border. They have nice spots.

Glen Rose Oakdale Park is a great weekend spot. Full this weekend, but open spots next week
