Not sure if I ever seen any campgrounds close to the downtown area. It is a very busy area and driving in daily won't be fun. I would find a motel close to where you need to go, sure would be a lot less stressful.

TY Park, in Hollywood, would be the closest RV Park. TY Park, is almost adjacent to I-95, but it would be a long drive South on I-95, to downtown Miami. It's doable, though. I lived in Miami, for 25 years and traveled daily, from Hallandale, (which is just South of Hollywood), to downtown Miami. You just have to leave early and give yourself plenty of time.

Try Larry & Penny Thompson Campground on the south side of Miami-Dade County's MetroZoo. Beautiful, spacious, inexpensive...and close to the expressway system. If you don't like driving downtown, take your toad to the Metrorail Dadeland station and enjoy an elevated train ride alongside US-1. Connects to the downtown MetroMover to take you anywhere you want to go.

I have lived in Miami since 1980 and believe me...there really is not anything better. As full timers, we have spent the last two winters at L & P...after being on a long waiting list. I would not suggest Miami Everglades Resort...farther away in the Redlands and the on-site sewer holding tank and treatment system better not be upwind.

I was going to suggest Miami-Everglades. We have stayed there several times and spend a couple of weeks there last February, and have never noticed a problem. In which area of the park is that sewer system and which sites should I avoid next time we go there? We really like it because it is in a quiet area, yet near Homestead and not too far from there to the Keys, Everglades, and other areas.

Either Larry & Penny Thompson County Park CG or Miami Everglades CG. Both are in SW Miami near I-95 & vicinity of the Miami Zoo. Very quiet, very safe, nice big spots in former Avocado & Orange groves ( plenty of trees).

All sewage goes to the shop building, where it is initially treated before being pumped into trucks and taken to the county sewage treatment plant. One time when the odor was particularly strong, I asked a worker and was told that is what they do.

The distance, from each campground, (TY Park, in Hollywood or the Larry & Penny Thompson CG), to "downtown Miami", is about 21 miles. So, the distance you have to travel, depends on whether you are going "downtown" or on the outskirts. I'm pretty sure, that there are none, any closer. Good luck!

Depending on the dates you will be in Miami the best location is TY park just off I-95. When school is out the traffic moves at a resonable rate most of the time. A daily commute during rush hour should be about 35-45 minutes. The County Camp ground in south west Miami-Dade will take that long as there is always traffic on the city streets. School starts the last week in August so your preferred location may shift to the Miami-Dade area where you can drive to Dadeland and take the Metrorail into town. If you are going to the hospitals, they are all easily accessible from the Metrorail. If you need more specific directions or assistance, let me know. I still live here.
