Oops, sorry. Boulder Lake ia a National CG located about 43 miles North of Shawano, WI. thru the Indian Reservation. Beautiful scenery but narrow roads so keep your speed down!! the CG was constructed by the CCC during the depression, has lots of trees, about 140 sites well separated, along with group sites in a separate area. Lots of trees, a decent lake (fishing sucks tho--too much pressure)

I recommend this place: Traverse Bay RV Resort, Michigan: Index loved it. We stayed a week here. nice and close to Downtown, but not TOO close, Casino just up the street, Spa just down the street.... the map on google places it in the wrong spot... its just east a bit up RT72 a mile of so from Rt 31 on the North side..

Your list of towns and areas to visit is excellent. One suggestion, If you haven't considered going over to Mackinac Island while in the area you may want to consider it. Beautiful victorian island that has a lot of history. Great fudge, no cars.
Other than bikes and walking the only way to get around is horse and buggy. You will feel like you have gone back in time to the late 1800's. Just watch your step when walking in the streets. The horses are well fed and the street cleaners do a good job, but they can't get to everything as soon as it drops.

Most of the Michigan State Parks I've been to (All of them in fact) had Electric at the site, Some had water, None had full hookup. Same with the odd county park (Grand Maris for example).
http://www.michigan.gov/dns for more information
Some parks to consider
Hartwick Pines (Centeral lower mi)
Big lake State Park (Upper Lower mi)
Straights State Park (Just off the big bridge)
Taquamanan State Park (lower falls) Just west of Paradise, Upper MI.
I have not been in any state park west of there but I mentioned a county park above.

as to Mackinaw Mill Creek c.g. - those spots on the lake are beautiful - great view of the bridge and the island - but for a rig that size...i dunno - they are tiny sights - it was real tight for our 26' t.t.

Upper MP as well
We are planning the same trip, only in the Fall. We have heard wonderful things about this area and have never spent any time there. Can't wait to see replies to this post. Thanks!

I should add this.. Last time I was in the UP,,, I was pulling a pup, not driving a class A.
NOTE: when you cross the big bridge, if it's not a calm day they may ask you to wait till the wind dies down... Seems some years ago a young lady took her featherweight Yugo half way across, got caught by a gust of wind and it blew her off the bridge.
Alas, I know the divers who had to go down and fish her out.
So now they are a tad paranoid about high profile vehicles when the wind blows.
They warned me when I crossed last time (With the pup and a Ford LTD pulling it)
Solid as a rock. (the car crossing) but hey. I was warned.

KIX, when in the up. you need to stay at the houghton city park. we personally think its one of best stops in the up. all sites are facing the water with concrete pads. from there you can spend many days exploring. copper harbor, porcupine mts and the lake in the clouds! you wont be sorry.

I can't recommend Copper Harbor enough! Absolutely gorgeous area at the tip of the Keewanunee (sp?) peninsula.
There is a state park there, Ft Wilkins State Park, there are two camping areas although we didn't stay there. We stayed at Lake Fannie Hooe Resort, they had several campsites and some with full hookups. A large rig would fit in the full hookup sites.
Be sure to take in Brockway Mountain Drive, beautiful views of the harbor. Bring your toad and travel the coast road, no traffic, beautiful views.
Well, I guess it's time for us to go back!
Welcome to the Official Web Site of Copper Harbor
Not related, but our avatar photo was taken at Mill Creek Campground in Mackinaw City last summer, in one of the lakefront sites. Beautiful view, VERY tight sites along the water.

link on Michigan stae park costs, in short "Non- resident" $8 dollars a day on vehicles with motors including motor homes and cars or buy pass for the year at 29.00 per vehicle, I happen to also bring in motorcycle in toyhauler and have never had to buy passport, no sure why? and didn't ask. Michigan residents pay 10.00 when they buy plates each year. We use parks quite often and buy yearly pass when we enter park first time each year, they are available at the entrace ( Guard Shack) at most state parks. have fun and a great trip

There's a Municipal park just east of Christmas. It's located right on M-28 on a strip of land between M28 and Lake Superior - as in right off the highway and right on the lake. We found it by accident about a year ago, and as it was not crowded, enjoyed it immensely. Your 40' would be no problem there.
Copper Harbor has a nice park, but the roads getting there have very little or no shoulder. You'd make it, but it's a bit stressful? Staying in Houghton might be a good plan if you wanted to see the Copper Harbor area by toad. If you're there though, you HAVE to drive the toad across the Brockway Mountain Drive!! It runs along the top of a very high ridge running from Copper Harbor to Eagle Harbor. Clear day can make for some views/scenery you won't forget.

Here's some recommendations I did with a 45ft and toad.
Petoskey, MI - Hearthside Grove, stay in the over the top lap of luxury by asking for the buy 2 nite stay 5 "interested in buying a lot" special. Or stay free at the Odawa casino across town. Numerous things to do in the immediate area.
Mackinaw City - Camp Mill Creek site 824 in the big rig camper area which isn't overly big rig oriented. They even directed me the wrong way in order to back into my berth. But, it was an easy fit. It's just not like Hearthside! It's a whopper of a CG though. Nothing special about the CG other than location in tourist trap Mecca.
Tahquamenon SP - Tahquamenon Falls SP --->Rivermouth CG<----- site 48. The whopper pull through. Many sites here will fit 45 footers. Wonderful sunset views over the river. The other side of the park CG has tree height trimming issues. Rivermouth does an excellent job trimming up the limbs above 14ft. Hit the SP (several days) and Edmund Fitzgerald at Whitefish Point.
Empire, MI - Camp Indigo Bluffs site 10. Formerly Sleeping Bear Campground. Converting to an exclusive ownership facility. Ask for the investor specials. Some surprising early blunders - but has potential. It is clear a non-RVer is doing the master planning. Location is excellent. Sleeping Bear NP and lots of close by activities up and down the coast and inland.
Hillman, MI - Thunder Bay Resort site 21. There are only a few sites that would fit my 45ft largeness. They had me in another spot that would have been basically impossible. I also had to enter by the rear gates and back in as the normal front entry turns were too tight and trees too low. So much for their understanding of Big Rigs! Lots to do within easy day trips of this area.
