If you take the boat trip be sure to take the sundown boat trip. This is when the sun is low on the horizon and the rocks look the best (by far.)

Sept and October are perfect! You might see some flurries by mid-to-late Oct, but no accumulation until mid-Nov, normally.

Late Sept. is magical up here, but you may have a lot of competition in the RV parks from other fall color sight seers.

Sounds like a marvelous time to go.

Would there be an issue getting spaces in rustic camp grounds? We would like to try some more dry camping.

Public ampgrounds in the Upper Peninsula close early in order to winterized the facilities. It's best to check the web site for campgrounds you plan to stay for their closing time.... RV parks, also.
