Midway between Memphis and Knoxville
Anyone know of a a good place to stay for a night or two near I-40 midway between Memphis and Knoxville? We like state parks and uncrowded rv parks without freeway or train noise.

John/Karen:
It's probably closer to Knoxville than Memphis, but Deer Run RV in Crossville TN is a quality RV resort and it's plenty far enough off I40 to not worry about any highway noise. It's very peaceful and it is a gated community for RVers on the plateau. Temperate climate during the summer. We haven't been there during the fall/spring/winter so can only speak to the clime during Aug/Sep timeframe and that is good to go.

That would be about Nashville. KOA , Jellystone, and one more park are all side by side and close to Opry Mills mall. I know the KOA has a shuttle downtown to Broadway St.

When are you making the trip? State Parks and COE campgrounds are closed from about the first of September to around the 1st of April. Your best bet is to do a search on www.allstays.com and look for something a little ways away from I-40.

We just stayed at the Nashville Jellystone on the way back from the Biltmore.
In our humble opinion, it was a dump and @ $71 for one night ?!?! never again! dusty, dirty, yech!
all 3 are RIGHT on the interstate and loud !
Good Sam better revamp their rating system if THAT is a 9/9/8 !

Natchez Trace State Park, Pin Oak Campground, open year round. At MM 116 exit, so that is not halfway between Memphis and Knoxville, I would say 2 hours east from Memphis, and you are 1 1/2 hour west of Nashville. It's 11 miles off the interstate, winding paved road. First time I went there, back in 2002, wife kept saying to "turn around, you are lost". I just followed my directions and the signs, found a great quiet campground. Full hookups, but be advised Verizon cell service does not exist at the campground. You must go back up road to the one you came in on to make a call. Funny though, text messages do go through, but not quickly. I use this campground everytime we go to visit relative in area.

We are currently staying at Bean Pot Campground in Crossville, TN. A mile off of I40. it is okay for overnight/two or three days. Quiet for the most part, back off the main road so road noise isn't a bad. There is construction somewhere nearby, I can hear the noise but the trees hide it and keep the level down. Price is $15.50 Passport America Mon-Thurs. Good Sam discount over the weekend.
We left Memphis yesterday morning around 0800, stopped twice along I40 and were still here and setup by 2:30 pm so it is not very far if you don't like to drive to much each day.
I have not heard any trains.

I'd say Cedars of Lebanon State Park just east of Nashville, signs for it are on I-40. Great park. Second choice would be Natchez Trace State Park near Jackson.

We have stayed at Spring Lake near Crossville several times and it is 4 -5 miles off I 40. It is one of our favorite CGs but may not be half way.

Cumberland Mountain State Park near Crossville is one of our favorite parks. It's a beautiful park with a nice lake, campground (with some full hookup sites) and a great restaurant. Generally not crowded in the winter.
