Military museums
We went to the Naval Aviation Museum near Pensacola, Fla and the USAF Armament Museum. Theseus are must see places. I really enjoyed the USAF Armament Museum as I was in the USAF and was in Viet Nam. I stood next to an exact replica of FAT MAN. The bomb that was dropped over Nagasaki Japan, very humbling to say the least. A walk around the outside shows many airplanes on display that I was involved with. A big salute to all of our service members. Have fun RVN

I was Army but still enjoyed the AF Museum in Fairfield, Ohio. Fabulous.
Never miss a chance to visit a museum, especially military.

The AFB museum art Wright Patterson is outside Fairborne, Ohio and I agree it is well worth the visit with several hangars of eye candy. Also worth a visit is the museum outside Kirtland AFB Albuquerque.

Pensacola is home to the Blue Angels. That's where they practice when they're not off doing air shows!

Count me as another yes for the AF Museum. There are also some good exhibits at the Air and Space in DC, including the Enola Gay and a good write up about the mission. You may also enjoy a visit to Oshkosh during the EAA Convention. It lasts about a week. Dates and a program are easily found by by a computer search. It is usually near the transition from July to August. Here in OR at McMinnville is the Evergreen Air & Space Museum which is home to the Spruce Goose and a lot of other aircraft, rockets, and the like.

Never pass up an opportunity for a military museum! In addition to the ones already mentioned...besides the obvious in Wash DC, check out the Military Museum of Pathology at the former Walter Reed Med Ctr. Also Special Ops at Ft Bragg, 8th AF just off the highway (I95) in Georgia. Minuteman Missile Museum off I90 between Rapid City and Bad Lands and it includes a silo tour. Great museums on Maelstrom AFB Great Falls MT, and FE Warren in Cheyenne WY (Black Jack Pershing's home). Virginia Military Institute has the George S. Marshall Library and just off campus is the final home of Gen. Lee. Even places you wouldn't think--there is a museum at the old fort in Sturgis where the VA Hospital is that has lots of stuff from the Little Big Horn.

Come on down to Texas for a visit to The National Museum of the Pacific War.
National Museum of the Pacific War
Admiral Nimitz boyhood home is now a 6 acre 3 museum site. You can not see it all in day.

Fantastic place. I was there in late Nov. I spent 3 hours in the George H W Bush gallery and 2 hours in the Pacific Combat Zone. Never made it to the hotel though.

My son and I love to visit military museums. Last spring we went to the USAF National museum in Dayton Ohio. That was a great two day adventure. We also went as a whole families lay to the Mighty Eighth museum in Savannah Georgia. We were witness to a returning veteran and his family; to see and show his squadron to his large family. It was an amazing sight. Hats off to all veterans and people in the service.

The big museums like the AF Museum at Wright-Patterson are a,axing, but don’t ignore smaller museums. We have had a good time at Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK and the Rock Island Arsenal on the Mississippi River. We generally try to stop at any mi,Italy museum.
