Misty Mountain Campground and Jessie Lea RV Park

We will be traveling in Virginia in July and are thinking of spending five nights at Misty Mountain Campground in Greenwood, Va and then three nights at Jessie Lea RV Park in Big Stone Gap, Va. Before I make the reservations I thought I'd check to see if any of the members had stayed at either. We're appreciate any and all input.

We have not stayed at Misty Mountain but a friend has camped there several times and liked it.

I checked out Misty Mountain a few weeks ago. They had a dog show or something going on and judging from the lack of vacant sites, it appeared to be enjoying a healthy amount of business. I recall two main topographies to the campground. The lower part down by the office was rather flat and level, and then there is another part that is on a hillside, and a rather steep one at that.

I do not think it is high enough in the mountains to qualify as an escape from the heat and humidity that is Va in the summer.

We may camp there someday, but what I saw did not compel me to change any immediate camping plans.

We stayed at Misty Mountain for two nights a few days ago. Good hookups, lot of activity and nice staff. Sites where we were near the office were a little tight, but have seen way worse. We did not check out the upper level area, so can't give any opinions on that.I suspect the previous comment regarding not being in the mountains enough to be out of the heat, might be accurate. That being said, we are now in the Poconos and it is 80 degrees at this time of night and very humid.

Thanks all. I've made reservations at Misty Mountain for five nights in mid-July. Fortunately we are not trying to beat the heat and being from eastern NC we're somewhat accustomed to it. Our final destination is Asheville so we thought we'd spend a week in the Charlottesville/Lexington area before arriving for a horse show.

I'll post our impressions afterward.
