Looks good on the website and is close enough to Waynesville for me to spend all my "spare coin" at the Mast Store. Anyone camped here? Comments? Warnings?

We stayed there about 7 years ago. You turn right after you go under the Parkway bridge on Hw 23 in Balsum. Its about a 4 on a 10 pt scale. The folks were nice, but the sites were kinda tight and lots of trees. It sits on a small stream and they have a small store. Several Perms in the CG. We do not go there anymore, rather we go just North of Maggie on hw 76. They have two public CGS here. Both are nice. One closest to I-40 is a Passport America park. The other is named Gray(something) and both are on Johnathan creek. Both are nice and easy in and out. I believe both of these are closer to Waynesville. I'll get both names and get back on here with them. s/Toby

Here's some more info. I posted a review on all three CGS here in the IRV2 CG reviews. The other two CGS north of MV are on hw276 rather than 76. Winngray has more shade and the sites are on grass off a small paved road in the CG, their number is 828/926-3170. No trouble in getting a big rig in here. Its on the left heading North out of MV.

The other CG is Creekwood RV Resort on the right going North on 276 just past/next to a TT CG. Phone 800/826-8110. No problem with big rigs, We have stayed here 3 times. I prefer this CG. On the weekends they have entertainment and pancake breakfasts. The sites are close and are on gray rocks, but the park is verywell mantained. They are also a Passport America CG. They allow you to wash your rig in a special place--no extra cost. I think they will let you stay on weekdays, (no limit) for half price with the PPA membership. Doesn't apply on weekends. Do not know about the half price during the leaf change periods. Give um a call. s/Toby

Thanks for the tips Toby. I had looked at the Winngray but they limit doggies by weight and my Goldens were out of limits. Didn't check out the other one but I will do so. I had already made reservations when I saw your reply. Hope this one doesn't ruin my vacation.

I am hoping for the best here. We were given one of the work-camper sites. Could be that the workers left early because the site was sooo nice they just couldn't stand it! :-)

Ron,

Toby is spot on. We also had trouble at Winngray because one of our wheatens is 51 lbs. They did not make us leave but it was close. We have stayed at Creekwood Farms about 15 times and were there in August. My suggestion would be to go with that one.

We have also stayed at this campground in Maggie Valley if you would like to be closer to Waynsville:
Stonebridge RV Resort in NC: Morgan RV Resorts

Have fun,

Bob
