Moorpark, CA. Campground Search

I'm not getting any results from my search except about 3 parks a good distance from Moorpark. Can anyone point me in the direction of any parks near Moorpark, and that also can handle a big rig. We will be there in October for 5-7 days.

Thanks

There is nothing, repeat nothing in Moorpark. There are a couple of campgrounds close in Simi Valley. They are both Ventura County parks, one is Oak Park, it has e & w with a dump on site. I would NOT recommend it for a big rig, when you come in to the camping area there is a 90 degree turn with an old tree on the corner, a very tight turn. I saw a 5th wheel tear his roof coming around it. The other park is Tapo Canyon, which is about 3 miles north of the 118 on Tapo Canyon Road. It looks like you are going to nowhere but it IS out there and has 16 full hookup sites that are long & flat. You can reserve those online. There is an rv park in Northridge, Walnut RV, kinda tight sites. There's a private park in Malibu, Malibu RV park, very pricey. I think your best bet is going to be Tapo Canyon, Simi Valley is right next door to Moorpark. We've spent 6 seasons volunteering for California State Parks so are pretty familiar with the area.

I'm in Simi Valley, right next door to Moorpark. Moorpark itself is a very small town. The only campground there is Oak Park which is a couple miles east of town, and very dry camping. I'm not sure who handles the reservations there or the max size of rv it could hold. There's also a model airplane club that flies there so you may hear whining airplanes on the weekends. There is a mobil home park (Villa Del Arroyo) however I don't know if they have accommodations for a weekender RV.
PM me if you need help with any of it. It's 15 mins from my house.

edit: MissouriJan is quicker on the keyboard that me! haha.. AND, I didn't even know there's hookup sites at Tapo Cyn. (3 miles from my house). Thanks for that!

I'm sitting in Moorpark right now, at work (well... reading the list when I should be working). The first response had it - there is nothing here. The best close park is the one on Tapo Canyon. You can also look in Ventura, but as soon as you get close to the coast the sites get more crowded and hard to find.

If you're current or ex military, the Point Mugu base has a nice park. It's about 20 minute from Moorpark.

there are several mobile home parks in the vicinity , you might check with them to see if they have a empty slot they would rent for a week

If you're not familiar with the area, the Moorpark, CA area is a series of planned residential neighborhoods.

If you want to stay at an RVPark nearby, then your best bet is in Valencia or Castaic Lake, CA. If you are an Elk, there are some nearby lodges.

I do beieve there is a Newmar dealer there. You might just give them a call if I am correct about that. They might have a place where you could stay.

I've heard of but never used the Tapo Canyon park. Going into the SF Valley (which I know can be 25-30 minutes away) you can try Walnut RV Park.

If you are an Elk there's also an Elks Lodge in Canoga Park...

Looks like the closest suitable park is Tapo Canyon and with full hookups. Next best seems to be in Ventura area, but not as close to Moorpark as I would desire.

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and as a result it looks like a suitable park will be found.

Osok . . .
See you have a 2014 with a 2016 on order. Pretty quick turn around on a very nice coach. We came very close to pulling the trigger on a 2014 43' DS about a year ago. If I may be so bold? Why the change in coaches?

Ventana has been a great coach and we have many happy memories with it but just ready to make another step up in coaches. Newmar made some changes with chassis, body and FWS for 2016 that we really like, so we thought it would be a good time to upgrade. Yes, sooner than we thought we would.
