Is late September too late in the year to plan on visiting Mount Rushmore area? We like to travel that time of year to avoid crowds, but have no idea if we are asking for trouble due to inclement weather. Does anyone have experience traveling in that area in September?

This pic was taken in February 2014, weather was great. But there is no guarantees when it comes to the weather in the northern plains. Actually for attendance, there were more people there than what I thought would be.
Go for it, it's probably a crap shoot.

We lived in Rapid City for four years and one thing I learned is to expect about anything - had a big flood due to stalled rain never had one before, worst snow storm was in Apr, hot in summer cold in winter but Sep for weather in the Black hills is probably your best month for weather.
