Must sees on our list would be Acadia, White Mountain and probabaly Ben & Jerry's. We would probably mix up dry camping at some of the state and National parks along with improved parks.
We enjoy light hiking and exploring. Will probably be the two of us and maybe out grandson on the trip.
Any suggestions appreciated.

We are planning a similar trip. This will be our first time in these areas so we are doing the research too. In the White Mountains you want to go to the summit of Mt. Washington. There are two ways - on the west side there is a Cog Railway that goes to the summit. We plan to do this since the ride itself seems interesting. On the west side is something called the "auto road". You can take a guided tour up and back in a van. Not sure if they allow you to drive your own car or not.
This will be our first time to Acadia so I am sure there is lots to see. One item is to go to the top of Mt. Cadillac. During parts of the year (winter I think), from the summit you get to be the first one in USA to see the sunrise. Not sure if I will be so dedicated to get up that early to go to the top for a sunrise, but certainly plan to go to the top for the view. I think it is the highest point on the eastern sea board?
Also, lots of Lobster to be consumed.
I am also interested in recommendations from others of must see/do things along the entire Maine coast.
