We will be in the Sonoma and Napa valley area the end of September, and would appreciate recommendations for RV parks in the area.

Would like electric and water hook-up. Pulling a 23' travel trailer, 41' overall.

I am not sure why, but I can't seem to find a "good" park online as I usually do.

You may have some problems. Didn't you hear about the earthquakes in that area?

We've stayed at Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa. It accepts many discount cards and has full hookups. There's also Napa Valley Expo and Alameda County Fairgrounds. They are so much more reasonable than the crowded RV parks and the sites are bigger.

We parked the car at the Larkspur Ferry Landing on the north side of the bay and took the pleasant ferry ride, passing Alcatraz, to Fisherman's Wharf. We met a wonderful small van tour at the Wharf. The all-day tour takes you to all the popular spots in the city and you even have time to get off and tour some such as the Japanese Garden. It took us across the Golden Gate Bridge and we had lunch in Sausalito. At the end it took us back to Fisherman's Wharf where we again boarded the ferry back to our car. Even our daughter who lives there said it was a great relaxing tour. Check it out:

Last year we spent a couple of days at the Santa Rosa fairgrounds. Wasn't bad, but basically a big parking lot. Later we went to Bodega Bay to be near the water, only to find out they had a horrible fog horn (more like a fog beep, a computerized tone that couldn't be blocked out with ear plugs and AC blasting!) that seemed to go off constantly. My DW couldn't handle it and we left early, finally ending up at River Bend RV Park along the Russian River just outside of Guerneville. Despite a large number of long-termers, we were very happy there and felt like it was well located for wineries and such.

We don't drink but I rode my bicycle all around the area and found it to be very nice with lots of wineries. Napa is the next valley over.

He won't have any problems. They had one decent earthquake and a slew of little aftershocks that you can barely feel. The whole region is open for business with very little relative damage. Don't believe everything you see, most of the damage is in the old downtown section that was not earthquake prepared.

As far as River Bend RV Park along the Russian River, it's in a beautiful region for sure. Minutes (literally) from the ocean and Guerneville is a great little town, I know as my daughter lives there and also runs Berry's Market in Forestville. Moving there soon we hope!
