Nappanee, IN to Dubuque, IA must see places?
We are planning a long trip to WA mid August and would like help for this phase of our planning. This is all we have so far...
Nappannee - Newmar Factory Tour
Indiana Dunes State park - Camping
Our next "committed" stop is Badlands, SD so we're looking for scenic drives, great places to camp (we prefer water and more natural places, less expensive better, boondocking ok) and must see along the way.
We thought about going up to Dubuque following along the Great River road. Is that worth it? And would the Illinois or the Iowa side be better heading north? Seems like Iowa would be better for traveling north (easy to pull off but maybe there aren't viewpoints?).
Any ideas for Iowa knowing our general direction would be appreciated!

If you are going to the Dubuque area you might want to stop in Galena, IL. Small old town with a ton of shops on the main drag. There is the Palace RV park there. From there you can either head up US 61 to I-90 and to Badlands or stay on US 20 to Dyersville, IA (~20 miles west of Dubuque) and see the Field of Dreams (where they filmed the movie). From there you can either go North and hit US 52 and go through Guttenburg and into Minnesota to I-90 or take US 20 all the way across Iowa to Sioux City. Or you can Catch I-80 over by Napannee and go across Illinois, Iowa and I-29 up to Sioux Falls. There are a lot of good ways to go, hope you like CORN fields. Hope you have a good trip...

If going thru Dubuque, stop at the Mystique casino on the river! They have free parking, Truck and RV parking in the back parking lot and on the back road by the river is Miller Riverview Park and Campground, that is right on the river, and just north under the big bridge! They have 50 full electric sites with 20/30/50 amps, city water and a dump station, picnic tables and fire pits! You can Google Dubuque, and find some really cool things to do and see there! There is a National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium there also, and they have RV parking and it is free! Hope this helps? Rail!
