Hi. We plan to travel to Nashville and Memphis next year. Have heard that there may be areas we will want to visit and that there may be areas that we should avoid. We likely will leave RV in a park and maybe stay at a hotel close to the major attractions. Looking for recommendations for parks and hotels for both these cities, if any suggestions please include both positive and negative. Many thanks!!

I've been to Nashville during the last two July's for three days each. We stayed at the Two Rivers Campground Two Rivers Campground | Home | Nashville, Tenn. | Attractions it is right down the road from the Grand Ole Opry and the Gaylord Hotel. Felt safe in Nashville walked around down town by the Ryman, visited the XM Highway Studio, went to Tootsies, got BBQ at the Peg Leg Porker, walked around the Parthenon, stopped at the Ancient Archaeology store, Went to the County Music Hall of Fame, toured RCA Studio B, Toured the Ryman and the Grand Ole Opry, Saw a show at the Ryman and Grand Ole Opry, went to the Nashville Bisquit House for breakfast, went to Fort Negley Park and had some Hattie B's Hot Chicken. We didn't have a problem parking the dingy in Nashville. Great place and will go back again and again. Like any big city there are areas that are run down and are wise to avoid. Where the tourist attractions are at we had no problems.

Included Memphis during this past summers trip to Tennessee. Stayed at the Tom Sawyer's RV Park Tom Sawyer's RV Park across the river from Memphis in West Memphis, AR. Real nice quiet place right on the flood plain side of the levy. It was neat seeing the barges going up and down the Mississippi. 10 minute drive to Memphis. Only stayed two nights went to the Bar-B-Q Shop for some of the best BBQ ever had, Visited Graceland took the VIP tour - little expensive but professional operation. If your into Elvis a must see. We enjoyed it. Drove around downtown stopped at Lorraine Motel which is the National Civil Rights Museum (it was closed when we stopped) drove around Beale Street. Did not get the same friendly feeling as Nashville. I would take all common sense big city precautions in Memphis and avoid being out too late or park too far from attractions or the restaurant.

I have not stayed near Nashville, but am planning a cross country trip for this summer. I just made reservations at Seven Points Campground. It is a good price and not too far from Nashville.

Traffic in Nashville can be "interesting" with all those interstates coming together. That by itself isn't so bad except in heavy traffic periods, but they threw in a lot of quick and confusing curves in the middle of it all. Only been on the surface streets a few time and all that was 4 lane and no problems except traffic

I recently stayed at Memphis KOA just across the river in Arkansas, it was very nice. Tom Sawyer's was impacted by the recent high water on the Mississippi river, it is currently closed, and may be closed for a while for clean up. At least in Memphis, you will be within 15 minutes of downtown and 30 minutes of Graceland. There are great tour bus services in Memphis and that is another option to take all day tours right from the Memphis KOA.

Lots of stuff in Memphis. Peabody Hotel has ducks in a fountain. Big to do about bringing them down from the roof every morning. W C Handy, father of the blues home/museum is on Beale Street. Also toured the Gibson guitar factory, electric only. Graceland of course and Sun Studios and National Civil Rights Museum ( Lorraine Motel).

There are volunteer guides, blue suede brigade downtown that are very helpful with tips on where to go, how to get there and where not to go. Blues City has some awesome ribs on the menu.

Don't forget the Staxx recording studio, great tour/museum. Agree, the Blues City Café has great ribs and good entertainment nightly.

You didn't mention when next year you plan on going. But if it's in the spring check ahead for Tom Sawyer because they have a tendency flood. But they're so used to it they get up and running pretty quickly after the water recedes.

Hey Robmat - Thanks again for the input on Mt. Rushmore (in another thread). We are stopping in Nashville on the way out west and Two Rivers was a great suggestion. Booked a rez today. Don't see a 9+ rating on campgroundreviews.com too often. We've been to Nashville a number of times, but this is the first time in a MH.

For those heading to Memphis, you may also want to consider driving part of the Blues Trail into Mississippi. If you're into the Blues and/or music history, this is worth the time. We did it a few years ago and really enjoyed it!

In Nashville the 3 park right there on the northbound interstate were $70 per night on a weeknight... glad I had the passport america for 50% off !

Not the best part of town, but worth a visit !

There is a park just across the boarder in Mississippi Lazy Daze camp found, clean huge dog run, and about 20 minutes from downtown, it is also located right behind Southaven RV.
There is also the Agri center RV park. Also a clean park about 30 minutes from downtown, both of these are safe and well reviewed. The Agri center is next to a large park where you can walk for miles

The Agricenter on the east side of Memphis is a pretty good location to work from. It's about 20 minutes from downtown. It's not much to look at, but it's ok for a base of operations. If you decide to stay there, take Walnut Grove all the way to Germantown Rd, then turn right at the first right. You'll avoid all the speed bumps.
