Betty and I are headed to Nashville, Tennessee in late June and have looked at several campgrounds (Jellystone and KOA). Betty wants to be close to the action while I want to save a dollar or two, if possible.

No need to reply, we looked at the IRV2 Campground reviews and made our reservations at the Nashville KOA.

Tom: I don't think going to KOA will save you a buck or two, might spend a bit more then you might expect. Also, tell Betty she won't be near any action unless you call the near by Camping World as "action." Mile away will be the Opry Land Hotel, just found out last night to park in their parking lot is a $18 tag per night. Can do better if you come in from the back side through Opry Mills parking lot and walk a bit. Of course, there's the big shopping center Opry Mills to stroll through. The rest of the "action" would be down town few miles away. There might be bus service from KOA, don't know, never paid any attention to that detail. There's much to see and do, just need the transportion to enjoy it all. Being a local so to speak, hope you have a good time and let me say----Welcome to Music City.

Thanks for the info Marty, Betty saw the general location, nightly shows, and shuttle service and she was sold. My father made many trips to Nashville over the years and saw most of the Opry shows from backstage. I am working him for his connections as I type.

See y'all soon.

Hi Chickadee,
The parking lot for all the Opry complex is huge. One could put several aircraft carriers in the parking lots. For a bit of peace an quiet, drive around to the back of the complex. This is where one would go to enter the Opry main entrance. Except for Opry nights, it is pretty quiet. One could see the Opry and take the boat cruise without unhooking the toad. I'm not sure if one is allowed to park overnight there, but from a logistics view, the back side is a better spot (IMHO). Consider contacting the Opry for current information.

We have stayed at Nashville KOA a couple of times. Sites are good sized and personnel pleasant. They also have periodic free entertainment. A luncheon cruise on the General Jackson is highly recommended, particulary if Tim Watson is the entertainer.

We have stayed at both the KOA and Two Rivers. We like two rivers as the sites are a little larger than what we got at KOA. Free coffee and entertainment during the summer.

Maybe I wasn't too clear about Opry Lands (Hotel) parking lot.

Granddaughter's H.S. class had their prom at Opry "Hotel" last Sat night. For them to park their cars in the parking lot, it was a $18.00 parking fee. As for over night parking? I don't know but knowing Gaylord intertainment, (from news paper accounts) I doubt if they would allow over night parking. However, like Gary spoke, come in the back side through Opry Mills Mall enterance or around the hotel complex via McGavock Pike entrance. (note:not though any hotel entrance.) As Gary spoke, there is a large parking area on the north end of the mall area.

I might add also, the ladies will enjoy the mall, lots of shops for them to stir in. For the men on the south east corner is the Bass Pro Shop and many ladies enjoy it also for the clothing they have. Also for the men, on the west side of the mall, is a large tool shop in case that's an interest. Also on the west side is a large food court.

Marty

IIRC, as you enter from McGavock Pike, look to the right and there is a large parking lot for tour buses that you can use also. It's free, and it's the first right turn.
