Yep we do the same thing. Mine cost me $20 because I lost the first one less than 6 weeks after I got it last year.

I don't think it has anything to do with the physical manufacture of the cards. Recently an official involved with the passes said they were working on the procedure to implement the increase and it would be late 2017 or early 2018 (they are interagency and you can buy them lots of places in person, or pay $20 and order online).

I went and bought mine on my 62 birthday. last month, at a Corp of Engineer office near me that is on the list. Here is the list of places you can purchase passes.

Thanks for all of the information. I turn 62 in February. Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to purchase before the increase. If not, I agree even $80 is quite a deal.

I was following this issue when it was making its way through Congress in December, and I read the legislation. Nowhere did it give an implementation date for the fee increase; at the beginning I suspected it might take effect immediately. However, some initial info from NPS seemed to indicate they planned to implement the new fees in 2018. Now I'm not so sure. It appears that it could happen at pretty much any time, under the provisions of the new law.

I do not understand. You pay $80.00 a year befor 62, and when you turn 62 you cant pay $80.00 for a life time pass, what is wrong with this picture!

Not sure what you're asking. FWIW, and IIRC, the new $80 price for the lifetime senior is pegged to the annual pass price. I have not read the legislation in several months, but the $80 for the senior lifetime pass is based on the annual pass price; $80 is not specified in the legislation, is it?? In other words, if they decide to increase the annual pass price, I'm pretty sure the price of the senior lifetime pass will follow that change. That's if I remember correctly.

It's a bargain either way. Just not quite as good as the current $10 senior lifetime pass price.

The $80 a year card does not give you a discount on camping fees. The $10 senior and free disabled cards do. Both are fruit, but apples and oranges.

I bought mine last year. Even if it were $80, it had already paid for itself many times over from usage. Yes, even at $80, it would still be a bargain!

I just heard it announced on the morning news that it will go up next month. I still have not heard anything from my on-line submission. The site states that it will take up to 2 months to get my pass. Although I'm a little anxious to get it, I have a little comfort that they already charged my credit card.

Our local newspaper said the cutoff date is 8/28/17. 10.00 if they have one at local Federal Park. If online, 10 for pass and 10 for admin fee.

The actual last date at the $10 rate is August 27. The price hike goes into effect on August 28. Just so nobody gets confused.
